Why should I buy Overwatch 2?

So, this is not a troll question - I am completely serious. I have watched a lot of OW2 on OWL, and all I see are reskinned maps for the most part. I know there are some changes to some heroes and one new one mentioned, but I do not see anything that says “hey, this is a new game and worth $20, 30, 40, 50…”

I know a lot of player base is discussing the same thing, and a lot say they will not play OW2 even if OW is shutdown. Wouldn’t it be smarter to sell the PvE as DLC for those that want it (and you’re Blizzard so it would be a lot), and make the changes to OW.

I do appreciate that you changed engines, and if I ever play on a free weekend I might notice why - but on OWL it looks just like OW.

I know that Blizzards depends on Fanboys just buying everything they release - and this will happen, but would it be smarter to keep the player base they have in its entirety and add on through the PvE stuff?

Thank you

I think OW2 is PVE, and everything PVP is put into OW1. OW2 is effectively DLC. At least to my understanding

Do you enjoy PvE? If yes then OW2 might be worth it.

All OW1 owners will all get the PvP, you don’t need to purchase it.

If you spent one minute googling, you’d have your answer, but instead you asked the forums like a million other people before you.

OW2 is just patch 2.0 for OW1 and a paid PvE expansion.

You’ll only be locked out of the PvE if you dont buy OW2 if you already own OW1

So two thoughts:

  1. OW 2 PVP plays very different from OW 1 - you cannot judge it on graphics, you have to actually play it to feel the difference. As for “some changes to heroes” literally all of them were changed to one extent or another if on the passives alone. The maps that were shown and the new mode are also not the full extent. This beta phase was only part of the new content.

  2. The game is for the PVE; if you own OW 1 (I assume you do) you get the PVP for free along with all existing cosmetics.

That should make you feel better.

This is a stupid comment against fans of Blizzard, and equally true of any publisher and is no different for Blizzard. Lines of drones sign up to buy crap from say Rockstar without thinking for example. “Fanboys” in all quarters bro.

“Ow2” is going to be a full pve story experience- with gameplay along the lines of left 4 dead/ back 4 blood, vermintide / etc types of games

Those who buy ow2 will also get the “pvp” side of Ow

Those with ow1, who don’t care about the pve, will get the updated pvp experience.

So for the why- itd only be if you enjoy those type of pve games. If not, then don’t.

As far as I see it the only reason to spend money on it would be if the PVE was good and that is something you want. Still, it seems more like a $20 DLC rather than a full new game of equal scope to OW1.

Calling it OW2 feels like a pathetic strategy in my opinion. It should just be “Overwatch” and the PVE would be a $20 DLC that can be called “Overwatch: Omnic Crises” or whatever the story is about.

The pvp is basically going to be “free” for anyone owning OW1.

As for the pve, it really bugs me that they haven’t shown anything on the pve part outside of one very archives-like mission.

The pve is the main thing that is supposed to sell OW2 and yet all we see is a beta that has none of that but just some PTR changes.

I won’t be surprised it if all ends up as making the pvp free altogether filled with microtransactions and canceling the pve.

At the moment you have 0 reason to buy overwatch 2. Everything meaningful that has been shown so far will be included with your purchase of Overwatch 1.
Basically the PvE IS dlc, it’s just being marketed as a sequel. You won’t have to buy anything extra to play OW2 PvP

Pls don’t be another guy who thinks the technical beta 1 is the full game…

Ow2 will have multiple new heroes, maps, modes, pve, story missions

That is already OW1. Also I find it hilariously tragic that OW1 never got a new main mode even with all the sales and years passed.

Pretty sure the pvp stuff will be a free update, while the pve will be the thing you buy

I don’t really think anyone is going to buy it. I’m not, unless it goes on some sort of super sale. Their best bet would release it as free and use their typical loot box thing.

I think PvE is going to be incredibly short. Can beat in 4 hours short. If that’s the case no ones going to buy it. I would definitely not pre-order unless you like the bonus stuff.

Edit: Especially on console. Do not buy at all if getting on console. They treat console like filth.

If you own OW1, which you do, considering you can post here, almost everything in OW2 Player vs Player is a free upgrade.

Ow2 is for PvE… but also, they’ve been incredibly vague on wether or not Ow1 and Ow2 will be visually different…

In the beginning of the announcement they said that Ow2 will have improved graphics and skin updates… but they never really talked about this again.

They explicitly stated that everyone who owns OW1 will get the OW2 update for free.

So, there is no reason to buy OW2 unless you want PvE. Which, for some reason the Op doesn’t understand.

That’s literally what they are doing.

because of

  • new hero classic skin redesigns
  • PvE
  • new map visual redesigns

those are the keywords here. we still dont have a clue really on whats gonna happen since they never reveal a roadmap or tell us their intentions. people found out about 5v5 way before it was announced. i kind of wonder tho if they wanted us to find out

I really don’t know why people gripe about this.

You can google it, you can also get community feed back, start discussions. Like, ya for sure people should do some research but it’s really not so big of a deal to make statements like this.
