Why Remove Torbjorn’s Armor Packs?

Does Blizzard not like heroes that provide more hp to their team? First Symmetra’s shields now Torb’s armor packs? These are things that we loved most about their kits. If this happens my only hope is that they give these abilities to future playable heroes.

I agree! Those were both fun and unique abilities. It seems like Overwatch is just turning into DPSwatch.

I believe the reason boiled down to the scrap first and foremost.
The feast or famine mechanic that made torb unviable on anything but defense if your team sucked to high heaven at guarding you or just didn’t care.
Mind you i loved armoring my squishies and i paired amazingly with bastion as id always keep him armored.
Id like to see it come back in a sense but tbh i doubt it will

His ult counters life itself especially if you have mei but yeah i will miss armoring supports to save my mercy from a zealous soldier

I am proud to say I am in the top 1% of armor packs created per match. I write it on job resumes, brag about it on Tinder… The works. And I’ve gotta say… I am so deeply hurt by this decision.

I have given it all I’ve got for two years now.
Scrap on the ground? BINGO! Healer not armored up? I SMELL TROUBLE BREWING.

I guess he truly was too hot for them.

They explain it in the post, they didn’t like the feast or famine element of it and a lot of torb mains hated it.

I think the armor packs should stay, and brigitte’s armor should be changed to a status effect or something. Maybe her ult makes her ally’s ‘Inspired’ for a certain amount of time which causes them to glow a white/gold colour and have reduced damage taken or something. Armor feels mechanical like something torb would make. Rally seems like it should just do something else presentation wise.

They could remove the scrap mechanic and make the armor packs a cooldown ability with 4 charges. That would help Torb in two fronts.

First, it would allow him to immediately help his team from the start, instead of requiring at least one team fight before he can spread armor.

Second, it would help with the not uncommon situations where Torb would be encouraged to step into unsafe positions to collect scrap instead of prioritizing staying alive (you know, something everyone should do).

I agree wuth your sentiment and while i believe the armor packs were cool i think it really boiled down to there not being a neat way to keep that utility while removing scrap mechanics especially since they vastly changed the ult and off ability to make torb faster and stronger

That’s what I’m saying, just put it on a 12 second cooldown so it’s more consistent.

yeah well almost 200dps against armor feels pretty insane over a wat, 6 second period!!

That’s never been an issue.

They want the game to be more fast paced by having less TTK, and I 100% support that since I hate dragged out matches.

it became an issue considering there are plenty of shields now and securing kills with shields and armor is a pain. That’s why snipers were so rampant not long ago, shields and brig made the game focus on high burst dmg.

Remember that dps gets dropped as soon as it hits health and yeah its pretty nuggets.
Also allow me to correct your math.
The ult lasts 6 seconds the puddles I think last 10.
Each puddle does 190 dps against armor then 130 dps against hp
Its 130 dps per puddle and thats nuts
Its even stronger paired with cc of some sort forcing the character to bathe in the molten goodness.
This also doesnt account for any damage youll immediately deal post ult with your improved rivets.
Again as a torb main I will sorely miss the armor packs but i understand the reasoning of them being removed due to it being nigh impossible to fix the scrap mechanic properly.
I do agree with overload though and the turret changes were sorely needed as both allows torb survivability and utility where he was once tethered to turret.
And the targeting fix is godlike
No more targeting rein i can take out the healers and my turret will help.

symmetra shield gen and torb’s armor was removed because they want brig to be the only one that gives the team more health

so they got changed because of brigitte

Burst damage always has been king. That’s dive in a nutshell: jump and dish so much damage so quickly that your target dies before being able to react.

And from a personal perspective, I like the slower pace much more than “fight is over in 2 seconds because of first pick” pro matches. Every time a tanky meta arises, the pro matches becomes much more enjoyable to watch, and much easier to understand what is happening.

So, yeah. I think speeding up the game is a bad idea, both as a player and a spectator.
