Blizzard, bring it back and keep it please. I, like many others on this thread, only started playing again and more heavily because of this mode, please give us what we all clearly want!
the only REAL problem with mystery heroes is that without comp, i have to play the regular version again, where people ragequit every 5 seconds. If you’re the type of person to get salty and ragequit at the first sign of a challenge, then this mode isn’t for you, plain and simple. It is literally a skill issue. Or a mindset issue, not even about game skill so much as grit and determination. And coordination. And flexibility.
But yeah, there’s nothing wrong with the mode, its just not a good fit for you.
9 times out of 10 there’s some way to disrupt the other team, force a change in their comp, and improve your chances. Sacrifice yourselves to take out that Ana or whatever supporting them. And enough rerolls on your side and you’ll get a hitscan to fight back against the pharahs specifically. And enough rerolls you can force on the other side and they’ll get some worse comps.
Off topic: You want intense matches, win or lose. In my head comp is the way you keep people from leaving. Could also just have escrow matches. That would be dope. Or just straight up $1/match like team fortress did for a while.
I think you’re being way too dramatic over duplicate heroes. It’s simply not that bad. I’ve played over 8000 games of MH and played over 500 games of comp MH while it was here. Countless times I have seen duplicate heroes on the enemy team and overcome them. Countless times my team has had duplicate heroes and it didn’t make us win. It can certainly present a challenge but to suggest it virtually ends the game is ridiculous. Over my 500+ comp MH games I saw a hardcore spawn camp maybe 2 or 3 times. It sounds like you’ve had a few bad games and can’t get over them.
unfortunately i dont think im being dramatic at all actually…
ive been on this subject for quite some time now…somewhere around 15k MH games played…its been years of seeing it happen now (cause im crazy enough to actually do things like game logs…i dont like to just claim)…
heres just one of said game logs from like 3 years ago…🤦🏻♂️ Mystery Heroes + No Limits makes ZERO sense
i call it game breaking because its often how it turns out … it can and often decides matches all on its own
please please please bring back competitive mystery heroes, it was the best thing to happen to overwatch in years
Unfortunately I’m not going to put a lot of stock in the “game logs” as there’s no way to know how much confirmation bias plagues your process. You say you’ve selected random days but we don’t know that. You show both wins and losses where you feel a duplicate hero situation caused a lopsided game, but I wonder how often you had fine, non-lopsided games that also had periods of duplicate heroes. We also have no idea in how many of those games they were lopsided because of matchmaker being bad or because one team got luckier with people rolling their mains. I also see a lot of 2cp maps in your list of lopsided games; they’re gone for a reason too.
In that post you also bring up an important point that the possibility you might get a duplicate hero reduces the likelihood that you get something your team is lacking. But I feel this goes against your argument that duplicate heroes make teams too strong. In the same way that a duplicate can make the enemy team stack strengths against your team, it could also make them stack weaknesses against your team. Duplicates are not always good, and I wonder if you even noticed when recording your game logs how often a bad set of duplicates contributed to a team’s loss in a lopsided game. For example I would always prefer the enemy team with a pharah gets a duplicate pharah, rather than a mercy.
Agreed with all of the above. I also wonder how many of those games were plagued with leavers once the other team got a stack. Cuz nothing in that log screamed “this mode is broken” to me. It still sounds like a combination of skill issue, player morale, and snowballing due to leavers (which of course contributes to player morale).
In other words, there are a lot of factors that are turning your games into runaways, and blaming it all on hero stacking is a gross-oversimplification. A contributing factor, sure, but hardly the sole arbiter of who wins and who loses.
And to address the issue of not being able to build ults against a superior team:
I wouldn’t be opposed to a more generous ult charge retention upon respawning. Cuz that more than anything else is why (in any mode) the winner of one team fight tends to keep winning subsequent fights for a while. I don’t really want to further incentivize throwing for the role/ult you need, but that might be avoidable.
But even though I think it’d be nice to keep ult charge when respawning (or at least a healthy percentage of it), I still maintain that the mode is fine without it. This would be a QOL change, not a necessary fix, because the mode is not broken to begin with.
Because regular mystery heroes is full of mentally deficient throwers.
All the more reason to keep the ranked version don’t you think? In comp mystery heroes I was getting leavers every 5-10 matches. In regular mystery heroes, it happens every 5-10 seconds.
Comp mystery heroes is all the fun of regular mystery heroes, with (usually) less toxicity, and the added bonus of grinding for golden weapons
Wait… people actually played that mode?
I never found a match
During peak hours, the queue was pretty much instant.
I have NEVER seen that with other comp modes.
it’d be interesting to see the actual play numbers for this mode
responses to that
it was random days…i didnt log every single day as its time consuming…i REALLY doubt it wouldve changed things if it wasnt though…im that confident the logs would look similar on any given day based on how often ive done them…its been a while…maybe i should do another
they dont always have to result in lopsided matches as a whole…their immediate impact effect can be just as bad…comb through there and youll see how often i cite that points/objectives instantly switch…something which you can recover from eventually…but shouldnt be the case just because
is it a matchmaking problem when the match is even when the dupes are not present and all of sudden isnt when they do? if a matchmaking issue exists itll be present throughout the match…it doesnt just switch mid match unless something else is going on
cant dismiss 2cp just because its 2cp…not to mention it applies in the other game modes as well…so its pretty irrelevant
the improved team needs thing…a very common request for MH over the years has been ensuring that the teams are role balanced…always having a tank/support (enforced)…something which ive always been against…the stacking removal helps do that mathematically (no guarantees of course…still rng)…if you have all dps (even with dupes) youd like to get some supports no? hell purposely dying in order to do so is strategy because of that…so any little help in that regard is good
how often do bad dupes contribute? nowhere near the amount of times that they help…like do they exist? yeah…but theyre very much the outlier in this regard…waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more often than not theyre a good thing…because again the game mode isnt set up for you to be able to deal with it properly:
A) youre overloading on game mechanics…which you HAVE to account for in OW (why you dont play snipers into double barrier for ex)…B) youre basically removing the restrictions that the heroes have built into their kits (cooldowns/charges/cast time)…those restrictions exist to keep them in line with other heroes…but now you can have a zarya with a 3rd bubble basically…or dva weaving matrix inbetween matrix cooldowns…or rezzes twice as often
an enemy that isnt equipped to deal with that (and they probably arent cause they cant pick counters) will struggle most of the time…which is why things tilt so quickly so often…you need to wait for rng to do the countering for you (which can take a while)…and when that happens (which is often)…the game is no longer competitive…its a big reason why the game mode has such a huge leaver issue
Nothing has ever prompted me to post on these forums before, but I will for this. Please bring back competitive mystery heroes. All the people griping about RNG or “no skill” game mode are completely in the wrong, it is no different to any other high-variance game played in a competitive setting. Bad beats happen, but winrate over time over time shows out.
And if you just dont like any RNG in your game (not counting the ranked matchmaker putting together lobbies that are equally as unwinnable as any lopsided MH comp…) then that’s fine too, don’t play it, nobody’s taking your ranked queue away. But for a lot of people like myself MH is overwatch, I don’t play any other mode and haven’t for years, because I absolutely will not sit through torrents of abuse from frustrated pro esports wannabes in every game, ranked or otherwise.
Forget the actual ranking system and rewards, for anyone who’s primary game mode is MH the ranked queue was an incomparably better experience just by virtue of having few to no leavers, and actually getting to play both halves of the map. It’s night and day, being stuck with the old mode sucks, having just experienced how much better it could be simply by giving us the queue we’ve been asking for for years then having it taken away. Give us back our ranked.
It is astounding that such a big developer could have such little care for their playerbase.
If there ever was a Nobel prize for quality over quantity : this poster would get it easily !
Ranked mystery heroes was by far and away my favourite competitive mode. It was a different experience to regular comp and was often less stressful, which made it more enjoyable imo. It’s incredibly dissapointing that in the midst of continued difficulties as a company Blizzard chooses to remove a well performing and well liked game mode whilst ignoring the community as we ask for an explanation and reason behind its removal.
