Why play Tank if your W key is apparently broken?

Like for real. Sometimes the tanks will just sit at the choke forever even when we get a pick. There was one game where I was thinking why is it the only two people that have balls in this game are our supports? I was playing Mccree and waiting for our rein and Zarya to move in. But they just wouldn’t move. We finally got through when our two supports Brig and Moria went rogue out of frustration and Brig ran past our rein with her shield up and Moria followed closely behind her like she was our Rein and they basically bullied their way to the point and only then did the tanks finally move to chase after them.

If I’m hesitating at a choke as tank… usually it’s because I’ve gone in 3 or 4 times and just gotten murdered only to watch the killcam and see everyone cowering MILES behind.

So much this, and why I hate playing MT. Nothing is more frustrating going in as Rein/Winston (and telling your team you’re doing so), only to look back and see them dancing at the choke when we have Lucio/Zarya/Reaper or something

Tanking is the hardest role, so its natural when its less popular to have issues. Too many people tank due to getting loot boxes and have no idea what it means to tank… esp. the sea of DPS Hog players acting as flankers

But Flankers actually go in…

Then you push in and die

Be optimist.

Eventually S button will fail. Literally happened to me. So only W remains!

I used to play Main Tank. Thing that always bother me when teammates crying that I’m not managing Shield health meanwhile we are getting out damage everytime.

It’s like people don’t understand math.

Me: 1600 hp Rein shield vs JR+Hanzo+Hog on enemy
Enemy: 1600 hp Rein shield vs Sombra (only hacking the enemy Hog)+Ashe+WB

From my experience, in like gold and below tbh, reinhardt players do have extremely bad shield management. In higher ranks, they still do have bad shield management, but it isn’t as bad. Reinhardt players even in diamond will be hesitant to push in when they have a lead. However, I will say that dps and supports will complain about tanks because they are in front of everyone. So, their mistakes are the most visible out of every other role imo. I bashed low elo tanks a bit in this post, but low elo supports will overextend or be in an extremely bad position a lot, miss many of their shots on heroes like bap or ana, not be able to ult track, and play more of a dps style when the team requires healing or be a healbot. Low elo dps players will have bad aim, overextend, etc. Although tanks are the easiest role to criticize in comp, if you are at the same skill level as tanks that are consistently bad, chances are that you are just as bad.

Yes. There are really zero excuses. Quite frankly it’s far easier to be overly aggressive and then dial it back based on yours and enemy teams capabilities than it is to be completely passive because even if you live, nothing gets done.

Don’t play rein with widow mercy then

“Why are tanks hesitant to play Respawn Simulator so that I can maybe get to click on a couple heads if I’m lucky?”

I dunno, champ. It’s a mystery

generally if the tanks dont advance, as a tank player myself its not always from incompetence

sometimes i peak and lose my 1600hp shield in 3 seconds, you bet i aint pushing through that

3 seconds is a lot of time. If you start the push at 0 seconds you can get pretty far during that. On top of that tanks like Rein shouldn’t just hold W and M2. You should be shield hopping and using your own health as a buffer. You can’t regain shield in a push but your hp can be healed so shield, soak, shield and get healed, soak etc. You can extend the shield much longer. On top of that the off-tank should be also rotating with you to relieve pressure.

In the end you might still die but that’s completely fine. It’s better for the tank to die than any other hero as that means a ton of damage was soaked. Rein dying means over 2100 damage soaked, if done to other team members that would have resulted in 4-5 deaths. Expecting all 6 team members to stay alive while wiping the enemy team is a pipe dream, it’s not the norm. In all places other than CP mode point B and the end of payload push it’s a win if at least 1 person stayed alive and even in those places just few members alive is often enough to kill the dribbling stallers until rest of your team arrives.

if rein was deleted in 3 seconds that means that the enemy team is doing well over 600 damage a second

essentially they are deleting a roadhog every second, without rein you have no chance to even breathe

Tanks get a hard time because if they rush in too quickly they get melted, but if they hesitate then people scream at them for not pushing in. I’ll usually give 1 callout to push and 2 regroups before I switch to a more solo-oriented tank like Hog.

Exactly this, or I’ve used kinetic grasp, my barrier broken and I’m on 100 hp because I’m not getting healed.

I’m damned if I make a play and damned if I don’t.
