Why people pick Dva

I think most people like or dislike the heroes based on how interesting the personality is, not how conventionally nice. Moira’s sarcastic evil scientist personality is pretty entertaining. Mercy barely has a personality.

Sounds like we have a difference of opinion! So, you take Moira, I’ll take Mercy and we’ll both have a nice day.

I feel that is mostly true of first impressions, but what keeps people coming back to their favorite hero(es) is because enjoyment is derived from the sum of the whole: design, playstyle, cosmetics, quirks, tricks, their role and type of teamwork they provide. When that all nicely adds up for a particular hero, one tends to go out of their way looking for opportunities to play them.

Oh yeah, of course. I’m just talking about the people who do go by personality and appearance. They’re out there.

I think those things help influence who you start playing but eventually you gravitate to the playstyles you like.

Not true. D.Va was the best or second best tanks in low ranks for years, there were long periods where almost every Silver and Gold game featured Rein and D.Va on both teams, and her win rate there was good until the DM nerfs.

Power creep makes her kit obsolete.
She’s balanced where she is now if it wasn’t for a ton of power creep.

I actually don’t think so. Honestly, as nerfed as she is, I think she’d be pretty mediocre even in past versions of the game.

Unpopular opinion here: I enjoy tanking more when I don’t feel pressured to pick D.va. Every time she’s been good, whether it’s been in dive or in a Rein-D.va setup, it’s been extremely hard to justify not picking her over another tank because Matrix is so ludicrous when you can spam it (which is why it’s good that Sigma’s is smaller and on a 10s cooldown).

There is no tank I like less when they’re top tier than D.va, and while I don’t want any hero to languish in dumpster tier I’m personally happy to not have teams yelling at me to switch off a tank I enjoy more and that I’ve put more time into because D.va’s mandatory. Long live Sigma, Zarya, Reinhardt and Wrecking Ball.

I would disagree if they made the nerfs that I believe need to be in game and there’s a lot.

I don’t think the idea that Dva shouldn’t be overpowered is very unpopular. It would be nice if Dva was an option; nobody wants her to be the only option.

My point is it’s an unpopular opinion that of all the game’s tanks, D.va is the one I want to be meta the least. Sometimes it feels like unless your favourite tank is Rein or D.va all people seem to do is complain until those two are top tier. If I had to choose between double shield being meta or D.va-Winston or D.va-Rein coming back, I’d choose double shield every single day.

In my case, I pick D.va because she’s my best character in the game so far, and I like her mechanics, personality and gameplay style. Sure, she’s in a very bad position, but at the same time, I still enjoy playing her.

And also because I’m stubborn and I want to do good with her.

Them listening to whiners like this literally killed this game. D.Va was not a must-pick and it’s not ok for you to not want her to even be pickable just because you don’t have the guts to say “no, I’d rather literally melt their D.Va by playing Zarya” and pick a different tank.

Calm yourself. D.va absolutely was a must pick whenever she was good. And killed the game how exactly? Killed the game because I shock horror like a play style that isn’t just “fly into the squishiest target you can find pressing every single button at once” while occasionally eating ultimates.
You wanted to run GOATS? D.va was absolutely necessary to stop long-ranged DPS from being able to scratch you.
You wanted to run dive? Again, D.va was absolutely necessary to stop long-ranged DPS from being able to scratch you.
Whenever D.va’s been good, she’s been the most or second-most picked tank across all levels of play. Whenever she’s been bad, she’s been unspeakably bad. Neither of those states are healthy.

She needs a Torb-level rework tbh, same as Bastion. She’s always either the pinnacle of top tier because Matrix is so spammable and powerful, or in the bottom of the garbage can because the rest of her kit is too garbage to justify picking her. That’s not good hero design.

Playing D.Va is fun.

Right now though, it’s rough because Double shield takes out a lot of value and people found that Sigma brings a lot more to the table than D.Va.

Honestly the matrix range nerf from 15 to 10 meters is what has made me laugh at my D.va opponents because often when they know that they have to use the ability and are prepared for it they still fail to save the target because of how short the range is. Even if it takes only a second or a bit more to position yourself with the new range the targets usually still die within that timeframe

sry, i think my title doesnt relate to my paragraph.

the jist is people continue to pick her because of the lack of punishment for playing her bad. nevermind that shes a throw pick in recent metas.

D’Va one trick checking in and commenting.
I love D’Va’s kit when it comes to helping my team by taking out snipers (boost to get to them then melt them up close and personal) to using self destruct to empty an area to get payloads that final little push etc.
I am not a FPS player before Overwatch, hated them actually, but Overwatch (and specifically D’Va ) I enjoy playing.

Oh should mention I also have a signed D’Va pop funko, full D’Va cosplay (including nerf rival gun and headset), multiple (signed by authors) D’Va fan art. D’Va carbon fiber hoodie, D’Va mouse coming from Wish , etc.
