OW was marketed as a game as a service and an esport title. People were concerned about continued support for OW from the start. 3-4 years is not long in this regard. If OW only gets 3-4 years of support, no reasonable person would expect more for OW2. If a competitor say Riot comes out with a arcady team shooter around the same time as OW2; who is every wanna be pro or streamer going to pick; the shooter from Riot that has supported LoL forever and is supporting Valorant or Blizzard who dropped off supporting their first highly successful fps after 3 years?
how long do people think a single game should be supported?
also, since OW2 completely replaces OW1, it IS exactly that support and service youre asking for. theyre just making it a cohesive huge patch that changes so many things at once that it needs a lot of time and care.
thats something you cant achieve through small constant updates, sometimes you just need that time and energy to produce something greater.
Blizzard because riot is ridiculous, hackers are rampant in both of their shooters, their items and characters cost ridiculous amounts of money and they don’t put nearly as much love or dedication into their game.
The only good game they have is LoL as far as I’m concerned.
I mean TF2 came out how many years ago and is still being updated?
With the genre of this game compared to others, people expected more than just 2 years of steady content after release.
well to that i can only say: manage your expectations. its a skill i see lacking in people everywhere i go.
To that I say: no.
People like you are part of the problem and why the game industry is in a bad place and getting worse every year. The game developers should not be abandoning this game to work on a sequel less than 2 years after release. Nor should people be encouraged to lessen their expectations when a company is giving bare-minimum.
I could be wrong here, but I believe an overwatch campaign mode was highly requested. That’s one of the reasons they are doing it.
Ow1 won’t be abandoned. While I wish they pushed more content into it while they focus on Ow2, from this blizzcon I could see that they have really been working hard on it and I have the feeling this wait will be worth it. That’s just my opinion tho.
Overwatch was not marketed originally as an esport. It didn’t even ship with a competitive mode. The large majority of players never play competitive; they have plenty of data about that. Jeff has repeatedly stated in interviews that they never saw Overwatch as a game that would have an endless supply of new heroes, either.
The competitive playerbase, frankly, has been spoiled. They’ve expected tons of free content forever for a game that they only had to buy once. No business can afford to do that. The lootbox system that used to support the game can’t do it anymore, and there’s a good reason no other game uses that system solely to finance continued operations. The free ride is over. If you want new content in the future, you better get ready for that battlepass and for that in game currency that you can buy separately to finance the PvP, just like Apex for one example.
They should follow the LoL model honestly. Best model out there.
No new hero or new maps, but ain’t we getting regular balance updates now? It’s every 2 weeks compared to months or even years previously!
No new game breaking hero like OG Brig and OG Sig, no new maps like Paris for the whole year? I see it as an absolute win!
No business besides:
-CS:GO
-Lol
-Tf2
-Valorant
-Cod
-multiple online coop games like terraria,Valheim,Rust
If they can’t afford to put their lazy bums to work properly just release dedicated server and allow external balance and matchmaking like ESEA, which would magically solve all the competetive problems this game has. But they hold it with an iron grip telling us: “you can’t have fun or a meaningful experience until we say so, wait until 2024”.
Btw jeff called , he needs his shoes shined by tommorow.
After all the problems people had with valorant… overheating… damaging PCs… it’s getting you banned on other games… I would choose Overwatch 24/7.
No thank you. Not today Satan.
I agree with the sentiment of “manage your expectations” but I would also say that people expect what they do, because Blizzard advertised the way they did, and in the long term they have not really delivered. I am not complaining, just playing devil’s advocate.
They fired 600 support representatives
gg
all of which have an in game store and/or a battle pass, while Overwatch has no battle pass and a store that is incredibly limited, with the lootboxes that have ingame currency being unavailable in several countries because they’re illegal.
…which are not FPS games. Valheim doesn’t even have PvP. Terraria will not be releasing any new content. Rust sells DLC. GTFO with that “It’s all free content” nonsense. All those games have multiple ways to continue getting money from their playerbase. Overwatch is no different and shouldn’t be different - you’ve never had to pay for a single hero, and they’ve actively refused to sell exclusive cosmetics multiple times (Pink Mercy, anyone?)
Get over yourself.
TF2 is still being updated? In the last year, how many updates did they have that weren’t just “new hat”?
They have a pro league, and assumedly wish to make money on the game and league. At the very least out of self-interest, they should support it until that isn’t the case.
Yeah, no.
“Don’t expect a game to be updated after 3 years.” Is rather… poor.
Especially when there’s so much potential in games, and people willing to continue to spend money on it.
And it’s also poor to say “Well I don’t expect this, so you should do the same.”
NetHack was first released in 1987 and still gets updates.
Speaking of Blizzard, they updated their game Starcraft for 20 years.
Just because YOU don’t think games should be updated or worked with past a certain time, that doesn’t mean everyone (including game developers) think the same.
Lmao.
TF2 servers were mainly community driven. Their microtransactions actually gave kits, so not just cosmetic. Not pay to win, but clearly not a transparent model
CS:GO was dying before they did the arms update. What we have thanks to that is an 8 year old game which also came out on PS3 that has abysmal performance (just play Danger Zone, the engine doesn’t play well with larger maps at all) just because it’s the golden goose for valve due to skins revenue.
Lol. Can’t talk, I don’t play that stuff
Valorant. It’s their experimental project to get into the FPS territory, they can afford to have losses at the beginning. It hasn’t even been out for a full year.
Cod. Yearly installments and terrible server quality with bootleg clientside stuff.
Valheim literally released this month.
To quote Moira: “what are you on about?”
Terraria will not be releasing any new content.
Terraria has mods which add almost infinite content just like servers on tf2
all of which have an in game store and/or a battle pass, while Overwatch has no battle pass and a store that is incredibly limited, with the lootboxes that have ingame currency being unavailable in several countries because they’re illegal.
I’ll gladly buy a battlepass for new content, i’ll gladly do my own thing on a dedicated server IF I HAD ONE. Blizzard is deliberately locking ways for people to do their own thing in fear they make another DOTA. If you lock people out take responsibility for the game and keep it fresh.Instead blizz said: “we are not letting you do anything on your own, but we will not do anything or show anything at least for another 2-3 years” which is completly unacceptable.
Please give more arguments without any merit. You expect a finished product and are fine with waiting many years. I expect them to release the tools to make my own fun because i don’t want to wait until there is 3 at the start of my age number and gladly spend time to fix this game and show these developers how much potential it has.
