Why OW and OWL failed

Its pretty obvious that OWL is getting less and less viewership every year and the game has less and less players.
There are 2 main reasons why:

  1. OWL teams are supposed to represend cities but they are full of Koreans.
Makes fans not want to support the team when the team isnt supporting their city/contry and buying Koreans to play for them (except korean based team obviously)

  2. Game balance choices.
A lot of heroes that were released since launch are very low skill, and very effective. Heroes that are effective should require aim, gamesense and movement but that all goes out the window with auto-aim, no aim, and teleport abilities. Heroes that should be meta are: McCree, Genji, Zarya,Zen. Not Brig, Moira…

I don’t think you know what failed means.

OW didnt fail and OWL didnt fail either

and this is coming from an OWL hater, i absolutely could not care if it crashes and burns. but it didnt fail

even in other sports, there are people from different countries in teams of completly oposite cities form completly different contries.

think of it as these people are fighting in the name of the city, they dont necesarily need to be from that city, they just are the best asset you got. it would be a terrible choice to pass up on good players because they are korean.

Thats just the bad balance we all know, and it has literally nothing to do with skill,

If selling over 20 million copies of a game is failing, I want to fail too.

In other sports all clubs support local players and most of the teams are players from that country.

The point about skill i was making is that heroes that are low skill (no aim required, get out of jail free abilities) shoult not be effective and meta

Ho-wh-I-what?

It was good at the begining. I remember playing it back then when it was about skill and it was really fun.

Not in all of them, there are teams with a lot of foreign players.

the meta doesnt care about the skill, it only cares about what hero is the most effective in that particular situation

??? i know meta doesnt care about this
im saying that the game should be balanced so that high skill heroes are meta and low skill are not
thats why the game is losing players

america simply doesn’t have as many people playing videogames at a competitive level per area as korea

in texas it’d be hard to find someone willing to put in the time, have the desire to play in the pro circuit, and actually be able to afford it

thats a terrible way to design a game, pruposely rendering characters weak because of “low skill”

if anything, a better way would be to make the “low skill” characters take more “skill” in other areas, or increase their skill ceeling overall

Thats just not true, look at the CSGO, Valorant scenes. There are very low % of asians playing in eu/na

What just because they are Korean doesn’t mean I won’t support them that’s kind of messed up to say we won’t support out team because they are a race. Overwatch is most popular in Korea so it shouldn’t come a surprise because gaming is seen as a career choice in Korea so they of course will be the majority because they Are where the games most popular.

Fail me daddy Kaplan, says the masses

csgo isn’t very popular in korea, and valorant seems to have a pretty decent amount of korean players from what i can tell

Its not messed up. Its not about race, if your team is called LONDON Spitfire you would expect that its a UK or atleaset EU based team.

Switch to Youtube.

You mean DPS get more popular. Nothing else is viewable.

Dont matter. Same is in other sports.

Currently very balanced. People started calling it “the new golden age” because almost everything is playable right now. Not meta but playable.

Go to CoD if you dont like it. OW is not a regualr shooter. Accept it and go away with other “aim elitists” .

Nah. OWL failed because it never succeeded due to them being absurd about it. They lied to the community over and over again wasting much needed resources that were supposed to go into the development of the game into the scene after they told that they weren’t going to do that. They also harassed the players to a disgusting degree and they made constant remarks about how miserable their conditions were and why the scene was a joke. The community absolutely hated the scene right from the start because of all this and the hate was further more enforced by the bad choices they made regarding nearly everything

Then there’s the game’s side. We all acknowledge the fact that the game will probably never be truly balanced and aren’t mad that it isn’t balanced. However they’ve made massive amounts of toxic subjective changes to heroes which have made players hate the balance devs. They’ve made notably stuff like Brig 1.0, Sigma 1.0 or nerfing Roadhog to be the worst iteration of a hero in the history of release OW just because they were about to release Doomfist. Another notable mention is also the kinda new Genji buff that made her broken for a month. I’ve never seen players mald as hard and it killed about half of the remaining players that I know because they knew that it was intentional and how stuffy it was

Then there’s matchmaking and player behavior that makes the gameplay feel garbage a lot of the time

It’s a mixed bag of wide variety of the most simple issues that they can’t get right. Some of them are understandable but a lot of them are just due to them being dense or out of pure negligence which makes the players distrust the devs

Personally I have no trust that OW2 is going to do anything for the game and fully expect the game to die 3 months into it due to massive amounts of abuse and negligence from the devs

easy, 1 word. Blizzard.

Basketball team have a lot of people that aren’t from the city nor america. Like others said ow is really popular in korea it’s only normal to have more pros from there than here.
