Let’s just compare to MR a game that has OQ and works, and you will see why it, and any similar flexible format, wouldn’t work in OW without huge overhauls to the game’s balance and design philosophy
- Tank does less damage than dps
We call damage heroes for a reason. If tanks do equal dps, especially meaningful damage that contributes to a kill, then there is no reason to play damage. The few really damage heavy tanks in rivals are much less sustainable to make up for it and still kill slower than most dps. The OW tanks are just too good at everything to work in OQ
- Sustain is good enough for solo heal comps to not be miserable
Solo healing doesn’t have to be competitively viable, just good enough that if you go in and say yeah idc I’m going to be my team’s fourth dps in QP, you can actually like leave the spawn room and like play the game and even have somewhat of a chance of winning. Without this the whole game is just role bullying
- Comp is not the focus
Comp marvel rivals has a lot of the same problems as OW pre RQ. There are still optimal comps, I played around 9 hours of comp and only got to play dps once or twice without hurting our odds of winning, about as bad as OW. But who cares, comp is a niche side mode, bronze 2 is top 48% of the playerbase, you can just boot QP and instalock spiderman 4 games in a row and it’s not a problem to anyone, it’s how the game is meant to be played
