Why not buff Doomfist?

I’m a Diamond-Masters Doomfist main on console with over 400 hours on the hero. I also play a fair bit of support and tank.

Doomfist has been a rollercoaster of a hero since release, and I understand why. Balancing for a character that needs to feel powerful but fair isn’t easy. Hit kit was full of bugs, and fixing those has taken years. Now, Doomfist is in a rough spot, especially with Genji as strong as he is (Though this will probably change).

The problem with Doomfist now is his capability to enter a fight safely. He only has a single practical option in Rocket Punch. Should be face any CC, he is immediately destroyed, since RP throws you into the center of the enemy team. “Rollout” styles are common, but largely ineffective as you climb the ranked ladder. While this style is admittedly annoying, it is far from practical in every situation.

My proposal is this: Bring back Doomfists previous longer range slam which could reach ~80 damage. When this change went through, the justification was always shoddy. Sure, his Uppercut and Slam were oppressive in it’s ability to take control away, but the distance of Slam was never the problem. Hell, even slow the damage ramp when using aerial slam. The distance is important for him to engage in multiple different ways, and escape safely. The current distance of slam has always felt really tame, and hardly enough to get you out of trouble.

Anyone else feel Doom is in a rough spot? Any more ideas on how to get him out?

increase slam range to 20 meters
revert uppercut recovery nerf
decrease rp damage to 200 or 150 (max with wall)

  • decrease charge time

possibly increase meteor strike damage?

His punch is already buggy and hard to land. The 300hp is fine, but they need to address the fact that on the slightest of corners, his punch doesn’t get any value.

Meteor strike is a sad ult, to be sure. I think his Rocket Punch must retain its damage in order for it to feel powerful.

Why no buffs for Doomfist?

Because he’s annoying when he’s actually viable.

When he’s meta its a double-edged sword. His abilities feel bad to play against, but the skill required to execute such plays is also considerable. Think about how Ana is amazing when she’s meta, the game feels really skillful. Inb4 rocket punch is easy.

only viable because he has one extremely dumb playstyle that works

im sure df players don’t want punchbotting to be the only viable tactic

No, we don’t. Combos are much more interesting, and more difficult to execute.

Because he’s stupidly overpowered already? Right behind Genji, in fact.

How so? Genuine question. At ~3400 he feels rather impotent against any competent team with CC.

Unsurprisingly a melee range hero with 3 CC abilities, a one shot, and high mobility is difficult to properly balance. It’s almost like he’s poorly designed…

Sure he doesn’t fit in the game well. But, god he’s fun.

because all the forum support players would uproar and then he would be gutted within the week.

True talk here as a fellow Doomfist main:

Doomfist as he is, is a hero that thrives on surprise hit and run burst tactics.

He’s looking for enemies to be distracted so he can get in, burst someone down quickly- and Yeet himself right on out of there.

Players do not “see” the numerous attempts he makes, and fails. They don’t observe how many times he dies trying.

What they DO see however

Is a hero who “came out of narnia”, and bursted then down in less than a second with “nothing I could do about it”

The validity of that statement is irrelevant- because any time he succeeds, that’s how it’s going to feel to play against him.

Point is, enough players hate this play style that if it was ever strong - the forums would explode (as they tend to do with ANY dps that is meta)

I’d argue to keep Doomfist where he is.

He can be effective- and if you’re skilled enough, be strong. His “problem” is that he can be hard countered into an entirely useless state - but considering his power potential, I’m fine with that. Either find a way to play “mid ground” against your counters (ie don’t go for the roll outs, play disruptor on the front line, play protector for your supports, etc. you won’t top the boards, but you’ll still be playable), or swap.

Doomfist is “close” enough to the “line”, without drawing attention to himself currently.

If he was buffed, he’d probably be complained about until he was nerfed into a worse position.

He’s extreme from both ends.

Horrible to play against, insanely fun to play as.

I think you’re probably right. He’s quietly waiting in the shade where most people aren’t focusing on him. Perhaps that’s best for him.

Sad reality. The spot light isn’t where he wants to be.

He’s playable right now- that’s the best we can ask for lol

Think of it this way-

Be Batman in the shadows.

Shine the spot light on Harvey dent.

Doomfist doesn’t need buffs, the other heroes need nerfs.
