Why not allow LFG to make groups that aren't 2-2-2?

2-2-2…Im on the fence about, its good in a lot of ways and at times, it can have down sides(more on the good IMO). That’s not the point of this post though.

Why not let the defunct LFG tool allow for groups of any composition now? Seems like the best of both worlds. I mean one of the largest fixes for 2-2-2 was to stop people from feeling like they lost because of 3 dps, etc. If they really feel that way then all they have to do is not use LFG. Seems like the solution for everyone to be happy.

2-2-2 is here to stay. It makes balancing much easier.

I agree. They need to do a balance pass fast though. Especially look at some of those anti-goats buffs/nerfs.

Be nice to see Zen and Lucio get their nerfs reverted.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like 2-2-2. I like playing DPS, but I’d much rather swap to tank midgame and relieve an incompetent tank than sit on DPS wishing they would make space. It’s incredibly frustrating to have tanks scared to push forward and no way to play tank yourself.

But, kidding themselves if anyone thinks it’s getting reverted after all that work. I’d like to see not only zen and lucio reverted, but some or most of the recent dps buffs scaled back… there’s SO much burst damage right now. That, alongside something that properly takes double shield out of meta and I’d be pretty happy regardless of my feelings on 2-2-2.

Over time the “incompetent” tank will not be matched with you as you will climb or he will fall.

These are just the growing pains of going from complete anarchy to an actual competitive game mode.

In time people will sit with players at their skill rating across all the roles once enough games are logged by the population.

If anything 2-2-2 will lead to less variance at SR ranks and make situations where you feel you need to play another role because someone is so bad at it no longer a thing. They’ll be as good (or bad) at their role as you are at yours.

Do you also wish you could play chess with all queens and 1 king?

Whether you like 2-2-2 or not it is now the standard rule set of the game. If you want to play the old way then just organize 12 people and make a custom game.

They made a massive change to a game that’s had consistant rules for several years. It’s only normal that some people will prefer the old version. Relax and let us talk, your precious 2-2-2 isn’t going anywhere.

Beta role que was (is) the time to try allowing for a mix, pick up 2-2-2 locked with LFG que roles unlocked. In place of having forum warriors see whom can shout the loudest, we could have had (and still can) REAL DATA to see what the players ACTUALLY want in the game. If they saw a huge uptick in LFG groups then that would be a real data point on how the community feels about this rather large change.

I personally can live with 2-2-2 forever…its fine but I do feel like it was forced on the customers when the customers that have been playing this game for the last few years might not have entirely wanted it.

I think it wouldn’t hurt to try it for a season and see how it plays. At least then there would have been actual data not just various opinions from the customers and employees of Blizzard. I’m telling ya, it would solve the split in customer base almost immediately…and its not like we didn’t have it that way for 98% of the time this game has been out…feel like we simply shifted the good and bad around to new buckets with this change.

Also…

Yes, if thats the way the game was being played for most of its life. If I didn’t like that, then I would have stopped playing chess quite some time back.

I just don’t see the harm in giving customers the option…someone, earlier, said balance reasons but that’s been an issue the whole time the game has been out. Which was a part of its unique flavor.

But most games/sports you’ve played your whole life haven’t always been played the way you play them now.

Games evolve, but I can’t think of a single example of any game or sport having a governing body that makes a change to the rules, but allows veteran teams or players to continue playing the wya they were accustomed to.

Actually, I take it back. When the NHL began requiring players to wear helmets veteran players were grand fathered in. This is an irrelevant example though, because there is no performance gain from playing without a hockey helmet.

Imagine if lfg teams could build non 2-2-2 comps.

Hi! My name is GOATS that comp your running sure is cute. Wouldn’t it be a shame if somebody just rushed in and beat it to death:)

What if a bigger kid than you went up to you and told you that you were playing all wrong and that you have too much freedom to flex and choose- without your input- and dictated to you how you would play in the future?

You picked a terrible analogy. I hope you like mine better.

Is Blizzard the big kid in your analogy?

Because I don’t count the NFL, NHL, NBA, NCAA, etc all the way down to local school leagues as the same thing as a bigger kid.

So no I don’t like your analogy, and I can’t even tell if it follows logic or reason.

Edited for clarity.

It’s possible we were discussing different things. Here’s your quote proper:

I"m sorry you’re having trouble. Ok, take out the “bigger” in the sentence. The point is that someone with authority over you is dictating change.

Is that not apt here?

I’m not totally sold on 2-2-2, but i do know you can’t take the basketball court with 5 Centers. No, every team gets 1 Center, 2 Forwards, 2 guards.

It makes sense.

To me, the rough part is getting players to their proper skill levels in the NEW GAME. I’m not sure using old data, from what’s pretty much a different game, will tell you much. I think they might want to reset MMR, and i believe everyone would get to their proper ranks even faster, starting fresh. I think the old data is messed up.

The analogy still breaks down because there is a difference between the school yard, and an organized sport or game.

Organized games with a competitive element have standard rules. The governing body Or any sport or game is under no obligation to consult the majority of players let alone every player before making changes.

So, despite your clarification your analogy is still pretty far off the mark.

Also, one last thing. What world do you live in where you’re not already accustomed to people with authority over you changing things. Your government, your boss, your landlord Or homeowners association. It’s just a part of life.

long story short, that can take forever to find a relatively balanced macth

Good joke. It’s clearly working /s

Yes, nerfing Sombra was a great balance decision

So first balance heroes for 2-2-2
Revert all the anti goats changes.
So tanks become stronger and dps that are good against tanks become weaker.
Then if a 6 stack use LFG and go goats they will get matched against a normal 2-2-2 and totally wrack them.
And OWL teams can also use LFG, so they can keep playing goats?

Yeah that sounds like a good plan… not

because they balance game now for 2 2 2.
