He seems to be the switch-to hero on a good number of maps and he is very succesful. Not often I see a sigma being bullied much and his shield is way OP and he has very good range for the damage.
I occasionally see him mentioned as being strong, but he must be top-3 tanks if not top-2 (I’d say top tank on a good number of maps).
Is it just he’s not problematic? I see him finish games with only 1 or 2 deaths. He’s so hard to kill.
I think a big part of it is just his Overall single target Damage Per Second is low. It’s like 70dps on a single target. When monkey was meta he also had very very few complaints and similarly his single target damage is like 60dps aside from the damage of his leap+melee combo.
People seem to be fine with very solid tanks as long as they don’t melt squishies.
Sigma isnt talked about because there isn’t much to say. He’s just a well designed tank with obvious strengths and exploitable weaknesses. He’s a jack of all trades that works on pretty much every map in the majority of comps but rarely spearheads a meta these days. It’s all about the Zarya and orisa hating now, later it will be about Mauga and reworked Hog, etc. etc.
That’s what I find odd. If someone picks orisa I go sigma and usually can win. If someone picks zarya, again sigma is a good pick. They are considered meta, but he is better than orisa and on par with zarya.
I see him on lots of maps recently. He was more linear maps a few weeks ago but he is creeping into way more games now and doing well on lots of maps. He’s a bit weaker on CP maps including flashpoint, but good most other places, especially push.
That’s the thing. Sigma can competently contest pretty much every tank in the game, but there isn’t one that he hard counters. Orisa shuts down Rein, Doom and Hog just by existing. Zarya melts through Dva, Ram and can ruin a wrecking ball with well placed shields.
Sigma was the sole cause of double barrier in OW1. His kit fit snuggly into Poke, Dive and Brawl. He was a powerful off tank to Rein, Winston and especially Orisa.
Because he has always been a jack of all trades tank, he will always be good for 5 v 5.
