Why nobody likes 3-4 DPS (Jeff Replied)

In response to the OP, that was what it was like being a support main during the dive era. It’s also why no one during that era wanted to be support. It was also exasperated by the fact that many DPS who benefited from that setup justified their fun by telling everyone else that supports were meant to be defenseless squishies by design. If they died, by their account, it meant a lack of team play with the opposing team — except that they always died and often.

Dive lasted a year. If we go back to such an era this game will lose a lot from those that lived through it and frankly won’t care enough anymore to stay yet another year being nothing but sheep for another sheering.

They really need to put some forethought into these metas they create.

I don’t believe this. She’s far out damaging other spam heroes, for one.

Also, its not ok to be a tank and be the best spammer in the game! They nerfed Junkrat to F tier for way less than that!

Zarya… more spam than Junkrat, but it’s ok because she’s a “tank”.

Then why is soloq competitive not tuned to avoid this very scenario in which you the chief game designer have admitted is not fun.

When are you planning to do something about this?

Because when 1 tank/support dies you are left with no protection nor healing and just going to get picked one by one.

Also wow, Jeff is alive. He has probably been held hostage in some dungeon all this time.

Yeah I get what he’s saying. I think… it’d be really cool if we could do 2-3-2s for fun. Maybe have a 7-man group arcade mode? Could be pretty neat to play around with, and would be more proportional with the amount of heroes per role.

Your acceptance of this, and essentially promotion of One Tricking, 100% lead to this state.

If you had come out and plainly said that One Tricking was Poor Teamplay, and Gameplay Sabotage, AS IT SHOULD BE, this game would be better for it.

You did this, and you hamstrung the games development by doing it.

A possible solution to the problems posed by 2-2-2 or 1-4-1 could be 2-3-1.

Essentially you could have 2-tanks 1-healer or 2-healers 1-tank. Might solve that

Jeff was talking about. In fact a good chunk of games won by counter picking is not an existing dps swapping to a dps that actually countering the enemy (cuz you know that JR will fight vs a Widow+Pharah till his many dying breaths), its a frustrated Tank/healer swapping to the dps counter that is needed.

Works out pretty decently especially if you have one of those tanks/healers have a bit of mobility/self sustain.

It all goes back to healing. Healing has been killing this game since 2016. Snipers have become a necessity because it’s the only DPS option that can consistently secure picks through 18,876 HPS.

I think we desperately need to nerf Ana and possibly rework repair pack, and maybe then non-sniper DPS heroes would have a chance at killing pocketed snipers, effectively reducing their value per match. Just my thoughts anyway!

The issue, is trying to balance around the flawed perceptions which Jeff and team has.

They MUST enforce 2-2-2, so they have a benchmark to balance around, because the potential otherwise does as you say, and forces snipes, because otherwise its GOATs, or the like.

You’re correct that forced team comps are an absolute necessity for balancing. 2-2-2 seems ideal but with the bulk of players gravitating to DPS, I think 3-2-1 makes more sense for matchmaking. The problem is…who gets the 1? :joy:

As a compromise, what about 2-2-1-1:
2 DPS, 2 tanks, 1 healer and 1 flex?

I think they do need to enforce 2-2-2. The problem is, the roles aren’t balanced right now because that would lead to too many DPS in games. Tanks are overpowered to entice people into tanking. The problem is, that still doesn’t work in QP and in comp you get too many tanks because people will play things they hate, to win.

1 of any role is a failure. You focus the one, and you win.

Its gotta be 2-2-2.

The issue with this is if you DONT specialize in 1-2 heros you are more then likely to spread yourself way too thin.

If you want to climb (which is safe to say a majority of the community wants to) you need to be a monster on the hero you choose. The aim, fire rate, hit boxes, abilities, and even movement speed on heros is so radically different that it is impossible to expect people to play multiple heros at the same level.

Why bother learning a hit scan if you can outplay hard and soft counters through shear skill?

Waiting an hour for a match is a failure too though…

Then those DPS only players should be playing other roles, or finding groups. Fix the game, and the players will figure it out.

Blizz greatly underestimated the skill caps of their characters and thus the dedication players would need to master them.

Do guys have any plans for Doomfist. Why did he have to get so many nerfs in one patch? If you’re planning to give him some changes, all you have to do is revert seismic slam distance and cc nerf and rework his ult.

(Also if u don’t feel like giving an answer here, you can post it in this thread)

It’s definitely worth testing in PTR in any case.

No, fix the game. Enforce balance and the system will sort it’s self out. People will migrate to other roles out of necessity. This game has pandered to everyone wanting to DPS long enough.

Problem with only testing in PTR is no one gives a crap about PTR and the player base is severely diminished.

No one tries everyone just does whatever and plays whatever (which is starting to be what comp feels like anyway).
