One of the weakest/most niche heroes in OW1 seriously got zero changes in OW2? Not even a small range increase on her primary fire?
Is she getting a rework, is that why she’s being neglected (again)? If so, please communicate with us because as a Sym player I’m fed up of getting the short end of the stick every patch.
Let’s be honest. She isn’t a popular character to the franchise like Tracer.
And people were so sure, so… certain, that a support sym change was coming.

Sym is fine, not every hero is going to meta, some are doomed to never be meta. Niche is not a bad thing as long as you are not some one-trick scrub
*As long as you don’t one-trick a hero the community has decided is degenerate to one-trick. Tracer, Cassidy, Genji, Soldier, Widow one-tricks are fine and cool.
Sym mains work so much harder to get any value out of her lmao. Really do wanna see these elitists do anything with her when they claim she’s fine and “just niche”.
Well, a support Sym change could still be in the works. We don’t know and they aren’t telling. I wouldn’t mind poaching a DPS to get another support and if Sym is going to be doomed to nichehood as a DPS then why not, really.
They’re definitely re-working her and so didn’t even try to balance her for 5v5. They have something heavy in the works because she’s getting NOTHING, must be close to completion and drastically different.
I’m very excited, we’ll probably see her new look alongside the rework, which is why we haven’t seen her new look just yet either, because it’ll be a more supportive style.

Because the dev team had to rush things to get a working version for OWL. They made changes to the tanks and some of the dps that needed immediate attention. They skipped out on supports and half the dps cast, hoping they be OK for the time being.
Worked out great so far, huh? They’ll probably get to Symmetra in a later beta patch.
I still think the best thing for Sym is to rework her into a support.
Benefits:
As long as she’s like Lucio/Zen where she can passively heal but the focus is on utility and damage
She’s good if you play her right at the right times. Kind of like Bastion in ow2.
And to this, I raise:
She’s really strong on Lijang and Hanamura, those are her niches. Not sure if you’ve been watching OWL this season, but it seems pros have stopped running her on her best map now. With Hanamura also being removed, she’s lost her niche.
I’m hoping very much that the developer blog update thingy today drops some relevant details about this. Like ‘X, Y, Z hero are underperforming and we haven’t changed them we know, we’re working on some larger-scale changes for them behind the scenes’ or something useful like that.
I had a match on Eichenwalde last night with Symmetra that was just the weirdest thing ever. Normally I struggle to do anything on a hard match, but for basically the entire duration of this game I had max charge beam blasting down a Winston shield or Winston himself and I both never killed anything and never was killed for most of every fight, resulting in a really stagnant situation. It was really disappointing, as usually I’m used to charging up the beam and then going ‘brrrrrrrrrrr’ all over the enemy team and it’s great. That just… didn’t happen? I don’t have the best aim, yes, but the whole way that match happened just felt awkward.
Guess that’s just indicative of the fact that we need changes. Even in an optimal situation I couldn’t even perform somehow.
OWL meta seems really weird atm, I don’t think that’s really the cause. All of the teams are all playing one set meta composition and maps really aren’t changing that. That’s more indicative of the other heroes in that comp being unbalanced as opposed to Symmetra herself losing her niche imo (…she… still has, ironically. 2CP out Push in makes her unplayable way more than she was before.).
Just play another hero. Some people are too obsessed with one particular hero.

They even said the next beta could have some support reworks
which is pretty pointless:
blizz has drove themselves to a balancing corner where support need to have a spammable heal method in order to be viable (support healing is simply that important in OW with the lack of other healing sources esp during combat in this fast paced game).
if we make sym into a main healer, there’s no doubt that the gameplay of the hero changes so drammatically that she legit would have 0 resemblance of playing like any of the sym iterations (because the goal of the hero has changed that much), even if we go for healing turrets, healing orbs, healing beam, or whatever (not to mention all the viability problems there are with ideas that simply turn turrets, orbs or primary into a main heal method compared to where the pace of the game is heading).
even if we go for a 2ndary healer route like a zen route i.e. dps-y support, that’d still entail making her better as a dps to compensate for lower hps and lower effective uptime utility, in which case why not just make her a better dps and leave her as a dps? like making her into a dps-support walks another balancing tight-rope of “she can’t be too good at killing but still needs to be competent to compete with other supports’ value”.
Hence why making her into a support is just a bad idea all-round. It just means that

You’re right. Zen should just be made into a DPS. DPSy supports just don’t work. Seriously dude. There’s a lot more to support than just their healing/damage numbers.
