I’ve been wanting to give a try to 6v6 for some time, and I finally started doing it. BUT… I cannot play tank for the life of me, and have been in quite a few games where there was only 1 tank, 3 supports, or other weird combinations, and I have no idea what to do in such cases.
Why isn’t there a role queue for 6v6 ? Is it because of queue times ?? I so wish there was one…
Just lose, who cares? Play defensively if the opponents are running a stronger comp, and lose.
You don’t need to play tank ![]()
Play whatever you want. I’ve won a few games where our whole team was just supports hehe
Learn a few tanks.
There are transferrable skills from Support and DPS toward many tanks.
Zarya, D.Va, Hazard, Sigma, JQ, Orisa, and even Ball!
Seems like you’ve answered your own question tbh.
Everyone wants 2 Tanks on their team but not enough people are prepared to be those 2 Tanks. People also don’t want the buffs/changes that would be required to make the Tank role actually appealing in the 6v6 format.
Few options.
Tell your team that you can’t play tank.
Use the preferred hero option and over a damage or support.
Try to find a tank player to queue with.
Learn to play a tank, preferably not one that gets banned heavily (hi Zarya and WB.)
Also to respond to the rest of that, Blizzard is concerned that 2-2-2 role lock will have issues with queue times* and found that open queue with a 2 tank maximum has been healthier for 6v6 and as far as we are aware is remaining that way for the current future.
As someone who can give or take, I’d prefer the game to just be 6v6 in general especially in a post-Stadium state.
If I had my way, this would be the way to go about it:
6v6 = Standard OW.
5v5 = Stadium.
3v3, 4v4, FFA, etc = Arcade.
*This is based on data given from their first 6v6 test which was 2-2-2 and was during the holidays and also when their biggest (marvel) rival hit the scene so I’m sure playtime was down in comparison to other seasons.
I haven’t tried that approach, I admit
Maybe I should forget about “min maxing” and just try and enjoy…
Yeah, I should probably do that too… I was always too “afraid” to play that role in 5v5. The burden of responsibility seems too high. But maybe I should, and that would indeed solve part of the problem (I’d probably suck, but that’s nothing new
)
Yea. It’s because of this. 6v6 was hippy control. It’s an extremely fun game mode and truly a blast to play. But they don’t truly care about it and just brought it back to please people like me who don’t like tank in 5v5
I think q times are not an issue. We had tested 6v6 RQ already and also had 6v6 RQ classic. Dps q times weren’t that high.
It’s just that we need one OQ mode because there are many OQ fans. But they also don’t want to divide the playerbase further and 5v5 cannot be OQ because of the raidboss tank. So it should be 6v6.
A better approach for OQ would be to make tanks not mandatory just like dps.
Don’t play tank. Go all in on the throwing and lock dps. Usually forces one of the 3 dps geniuses to swap to tank then you swap to tank as well.
I could have written that myself! But in all honesty you’ll be okay. QP is a great place to learn heros, even if some people take it too seriously haha.
I believe in you!
I am a bit confused by this statement: “I cannot play tank for the life of me, and have been in quite a few games where there was only 1 tank, 3 supports, or other weird combinations, and I have no idea what to do in such cases.”
Are you the only Tank in these games? If not, why not just play the 2nd Tank?
My advice would be to wait for someone to choose one Tank and then you quickly take the second Tank spot. Try to find a Tank you like and practice 6v6 mode. Tanking is easier as a pair.
Hope this helps. ![]()
they are testing the demand. Next season i hope and believe 6v6 will be the new format
Role queue isn’t needed in 6v6 tbh. You can win with any composition thanks to tank limits and HP nerfs to them.
next season the format will be 6v6 so there will be 6v6 role queue and 6v6v open queue. So say goodbye to 5v5. finally.
it would ruin 5v5 as there would be no advantage in 5v5 anymore to make it somehow look more popular. and if we get 6v6 role q it will be with gigachad tanks, the way we love it. ![]()
lies. Why you spread lies?
if its to good to be true it’s not true.
I’ve only been playing Max 2 Tank since it’s been around but even so, I don’t think you should get your hopes up. ![]()
The devs have said that there’s a 3:1 ratio of 5v5:6v6 players. I would be very surprised if 122 RQ is going anywhere, especially given the launch of a new game mode that has 122 RQ front and center.
My experience is that once you hit plat, you will get at least one tank on each team in 99.9% of matches.
I basically refuse to solo tank in 6v6, so if I’m the only tank I tell my team we either get two tanks or none and pretty much never end up without a second tank.
This is just my experience, but I think open que is mainly causing issues in lower ranks. Perhaps it should be role que in gold and below and then open que in plat and above. Players above gold seem to at least somewhat understand how to make a reasonable comp, and it would keep que times decent in higher ranks. What do y’all think.
100% agree on your vision for the future modes, 6v6 being the default with 2 tank max lock, 5v5 for stadium is soooo good. I do feel 6v6 and 5v5 should be preserved if possible but we also need the playerbase compressed a bit so getting rid of 5v5 vs 6v6 in standard play and just having 6v6 would be so much better. Itd be way easier to balance as well.
They could roll back some of the s9 changes, nerf tanks and supports a little bit (theyre super buffed for 5v5, not just in healthpool) and then they could tone down the dps passive etc
In other words, my dream overwatch would be OW1 pre role lock (bar the 2 tank maximum, maybe add a 2 supp maximum as well) and then stadium on top. I think thatd be peak OW
