Palestine has a right to self-determination and so do all the other independence movements/causes
infact, this case is particularly strong due to the IDF’s treatment of the palestinian population which is far worse than say the spanish authorities’ of catalonia
I am afraid it is a lot more complicated than you put it. For example, in Bosnia and Herzegovina which is divided into two parts: Republic of Srpska and Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, there is an independence movement in Republic of Sprska, however their “right of self determination and independence” is muddied by the fact that a genocide was committed in Republic of Sprska, specifically region of Sreberenica that caused majority of its muslim population to flee and they are now slow to return. Giving them any “rights” as you put it - to exercise self-determination at this point would be legitimizing genocide and ethnic cleansing.
I’m not arguing over their rights to self-determination, nor am I trying to directly compare Palestine to, say, Scotland or Taiwan.
My argument is regarding the international recognition of a country and how internal politics and historical ties with regions create a muddy mess regarding the recognition, or lack of, independence movements. Foreign involvement in such circumstances usually help to worsen situations, it shouldn’t be up to people living so far from the situation to decide the fate of these people.
don’t know enough about Sprska tbh but i don’t see how that makes self-determination any less cut and dry as it shows a clear case where it probably shouldn’t apply
Poland refused to allow Blizzard to use their flaag in OW because the flag can only be obtained by Loot Boxes what is money for Blizzard. So they just flat out removed the flag instead of made them purchaseable by currency or free.
I guess the lesson is if your country isnt represented by World Cup, OWL or has no written lore, Blizz doesnt care about them.
The second the put a palestine flag in the game Isreali govt. will ban the game in their country amd since US is a veru close tie with Isreal (A good thing) and Blizz is a US company you will not see it and to be honest i really dont care, their is a Canadian flag and thats all that matters to me
I agree Windz. It’s a fact that Palestine, is NOT a country. It’s not about feelings, or emotions…just a fact. It’s why they’re still observer status in the UN.
DICE had both an Israeli and a Palestinian flags in BF3, and as an Israeli it never bothered me.
you know what? while at it, if Blizzard had the balls they would put a Kurdistan flag in their game, extra points for Hong Kong flag.
but knowing Blizzard, you know they would rather swip things they KNOW about under the rug and expect people to never notice.
None of that is relevant to Overwatch, there are numeros countries whose flags are not featured in the game because Blizzard does not have the rights to them - I doubt there is some political agenda at Blizzard to appease Israel, considering their market is irrelevant to the industry. China on the other hand …
Because it’s not as easy as slapping a flag as an icon and calling it a day.
There are legal avenues you have to go down in order to have a flag be represented in any game, and while I’m sure they want as many flags as possible it’s not realistic. There are legal barriers.
