Why must Blizzard break the game with every patch

Small patch last night, hop on for some classic and then comp.

First 2 classic games are fine but something feels really off. Ping is fine (180ms) but something feels off. I reckon it must just classic being weird. Jump into Comp and it’s the same, but gets gradually worse and worse.

Low and behold my IND is over 100 all of a sudden. The game is unplayable, I decide to leave the comp game and rejoin to see if that fixes it.

Get back into main menu and… I can’t rejoin. Not only can I not rejoin but it’s as if that game never existed and I don’t have any form of suspension. So I left a comp game that I did not get penalized for and as far as the game reckons never existed in the first place.

So I queue up for comp, first 3 games are losses, which is fine. But I lose almost 50SR per loss??? I have never lost more than about 25 per loss, what gives?

It is what it is and I’ll just win my way back but there’s always “something” with every single patch and it leaves a bad taste in people mouths.

No wonder you see cheaters everywhere… You literally live in the past

Had this happen before. Most likely the server was having issues and closed the game shortly after you left. You don’t get penalties if the server closes even if you left shortly before the close.

I have never claimed to see cheaters everywhere?

Sometimes it’s a blessing and sometimes it’s a curse.

Ah ok, so I would assume it was one of those “server closed due to an unexpected error” red message pop up games.

Oh, sorry, my bad. Confused nicknames

No worries

To put on a tinfoil hat for a second: if they make the game perfectly functional, most of them would be out of a job. It’s probably in their best interests that stuff breaks from time to time.

For real though, spaghetti code is probably the culprit: change one thing, ten other things break.

And I thought my 80ms ping was bad

Think of it as a plate… the previous owners made it… then one of the new owners dropped it on the floor… it broke into a thousand pieces… every “patch” they move some pieces around and stick some bits together.

Then you understand.

Yeah, it’s not ideal, but it’s the best I can get.

This is why I groan whenever I see people asking for exact OW1 code to be patched into OW2 just for a two week event instead of how they recreate old mechanics using OW2’s existing custom game framework. The servers would probably explode

They probably have to work overtime for that and may not get paid for it (I’m not familiar with how blizzard does it but it’s not uncommon) And most programmers I know at least really just wanna go home rather than work overtime. Most people in general…

I should have made it clear I was being completely facetious. I do not doubt they’d rather nothing broke ever, as most people would. :blue_heart:
