Why is this comp so common in lower ranked games? I get matches all the time in Gold/Plat where both teams run this support line. What is the appeal?
I think it pretty much comes down to low skill floor. Mercy is the most popular role in low ranks because she’s noob friendly. I even used to use mercy when I first start playing support. I rarely use her now that I’ve developed more skill. Moira, I’m not too sure why people pick her because I find moira and brig the most boring supports to use personally. Others find moira fun, I guess?
Ana is also popular but for a different reason, she’s not that easy to get value out of from the get-go, but people still pick her anyways in low ranks because she’s fun.
Mercy is easyest heal bot hero on support pool and Moira is only hero to flame over Dps role with ” i have gold kills lol ”.
Something like that i think.
Mercy/Moira have a spray together.
Mercy/Moira is when you have two Mercy one tricks
Moira requieres less aim, can farm ult fast and finish off target preventing the fight to last forever. In low elo, fights could really last forever if no one was poping a zoning ult like reaper or dva.
She can also easily kill the the enemy supports by flanking them (that Mercy or Ana will get no help 90% of the time and won’t react in time against a purple orb + suck). It is useful because they are matchs where her dps will spam the enemy Rein / Orisa shield all game and do nothing else.
Also her fade is a good escape / defensive tool, because as I said you have no help whatsoever as support in plat and below so instead of going Brig when they should they go Moira.
I would say, because:
Zen is hard to use. You need to have aim or you are gonna be killed by any flank. Low ranks matches are a lot of 1v1 matches at the same time, so you defend yourself or you change character.
Lucio is hard to properly use without a team to go with.
Bap needs good aim.
Ana needs good aim.
I have no idea how Brig is doing right now.
Both Moira and Mercy have good healing output with no aim needed and have good habilities to escape from danger.
reaper ult is not a zoning ult LOL
Literally what I was thinking
“Why are people playing the 2 lowest skill requirement heros in the game at my low rank”
Mercy is obvious.
- noob friendly
- very powerful base kit (not super ult dependent like lucio and zen)
- slippery (magnified by low elo target prio lmao)
Moira is not so obvious.
She has a low skill floor like mercy, but her entire “half/half” schtick makes her more appealing to people who have a very “i’ll do it myself” attitude.
For me I think a big part of it also comes from the mentality a lot of low ranked teams have where they have an over-reliance on bulk healing (instead of playing cover or using the utility of a support to kill their opponent faster then heal to top off after the fight). Mercy and Moria just happen to be the easier hero combo to pump out bulk focused healing on combined.
Lots of healing. That’s it. Many matches are won because your team didn’t die first.
A couple of slippery supports can drag team fights out for ages in bronze and silver.
Ah I can answer that for you:
- I can’t aim.
- No brain either, Moira and Mercy allow me to correct my terrible positioning errors.
In all seriousness I do play a lot of Ana/Bap too… but sometimes I also enjoy turning my brain off entirely and holding down M1/M2 respectively.
Moira reason.
in low ranks, nobody ever looks backwards, and she once was good at dealing with flankers, you can peel for another support, easier than a Brig when no one is paying attention.
