Intro
So we all know that ultimates can be game changing. They are some of the most important features implemented into overwatch. A lot of ultimates can do damage such as a Barrage or save your team using Transcendence. But, has anyone ever stopped to realize how hard it is to successfully pull of McCree’s Ult?
Overview
He locks onto targets in a short amount of time and insta kills them if they have a full red skull on them. This ultimate can be extremely powerful at times but also has a lot of problems with it.
The first and biggest problem is definitely his immobility. When he pops his ultimate he is very immobile and vulnerable to people sneaking up behind him. The only quick way he can move is by walking off the nearest safe ledge. Now, I get you can bring up the fact that many people are immobile such as reaper, pharah, and Junkrat. What I’m going to use to retaliate against this is the fact that reaper and pharah both deal insane amounts of damage incredibly fast. Junkrat on the other hand can find a safe spot and user-control his quick RIP-Tire. McCree on the other hand is standing in one spot glowing bright red and unable to move and/or react to the environment around him.
McCree has such loud footsteps that getting behind the opposing team can be a hassle at times. Genji and Hanzo have light tip-taps while McCree has incredibly loud boots and metal. I believe that Blizzard should definitely push to quiet down his footsteps.
The second problem is the fact that he is glowing bright red. He is so easy to spot out and can be killed by having a genji jump in front of him and deflect or have a d.va eat his ult.
The last main reason his ultimate is terrible is when you compare it to Soldier 76’s it’s very obvious who is better. Soldier and McCree have very similar ultimates. They both lock onto others in a way. Just the only problem is that soldier can easily escape a bad timed ultimate while still dealing damage. On the other hand, McCree is standing there with no targets as everyone who is unable to direct his ultimate away, either hides behind a barrier or runs behind something and knowing that McCree isn’t going to catch them. Sure they might do the same thing when soldier pops his ultimate but soldier has the mobility to probably go catch them.
There’s a lot of other problems I can discuss further but for times sake we can end it here. My message to Blizzard is that they need to look over McCree because his hero overall is extremely unbalanced. Feel free to leave criticism just don’t be toxic.

the hero sees too much OWL play to be sen as unbalanced. they get a fair amount of kills with his ult too.

I can’t think of a single other hero who’s ultimate is worse. Please if you would like, elaborate.

Hanzo’s is pretty bad cuz you literally just have to side step it. Pharah is entirely still and an easy target 9/10 times. “Oh lets break it- AAUUUGGHHH” happens more than his actual ultimate. Valk can’t withstand heavier team fights and makes Mercy a giant flying target. Widow’s ult doesn’t do much at all honestly. Yeah it shows where people are but how good it is is entirely dependent on the sniper using it.
But that’s kind of the point. Its about how you use it, how effective you are, and when you pop your ult. Deadeye usually gets a double to triple kill my games. Barriers or no. It’s not a bad ult and by far not the worst.
I can’t speak for how bad it is, since I don’t play him hardly at all. But I’ll just say, it’s kind of sad when you watch gameplay of some pro mccree players, they get ult in the middle of a team fight, and they’ll press q and immediately shoot JUST so they get an instant reload. Must not be very good.

It’s bad in pro play. It can be hilariously good in low rank play, however.

Mistake number 1 right there. McCree’s is not suppose to FLANK the enemy. Take different angles? Yes, but going entirely around the enemy? No, McCree’s job is to offer a powerful front line presence while also guarding his backline from flankers. Any time spent away from doing this is lost value.
His footsteps are fine.
Because all ults have huge audio and visual queues. Even more so if the ult has devastating killing potential. The deadlier the ult the louder the audio and visuals can be. McCree’s is arguably has some the highest potential in the game for wiping enemy teams.
Because soldier’s ultimate is damage over time. Not burst damage like McCree’s. There is far more leeway for soldiers ult because the impact he has is far less then that of what Deadeye can do.

Doomfist is a no-brainer.
You clearly have no experience using it, please stop.
McCree is one of my topped played characters. I get plenty of kills with it since I know how to time it.
Can’t stop, Won’t stop.

it’s a zoning ultimate and that is what it does and does well when used correctly. Sometimes it can even get a kill punishing a player out of position even though that’s not the primary purpose of it. It’s meant to get the enemy team to take cover and scatter in ways they really don’t want to to avoid getting killed by him. D.va bomb falls into the same category.

Expect he’s an offensive character, not a tank or defensive character.
You don’t even average 4 dead eye kills a game in quick play… you sure about that?
Because half the time it is designed for lane securing. Try again.
Offensive does not equal flanking an enemy. It just indicates an aggressive play style. Which he can do provided the proper support from his team.
An ultimate with that much kill potential shouldn’t be easy to pull off.

Junkrat, genji, soldier, reaper say hi.
Edit: adding tracer, she gets the damn thing fast enough and doesn’t die if she misses.
A single tank scatter charges a third of the ultimate ,and it’s big selling point is that it goes through walls ,it’s a good ultimate ,you just gotta use it right.
At least you can trade kills instead of just dying ,and at least you instantly start to do damage.
No it doesn’t ,thats a huge exaggeration ,just don’t ult literally right infront of a character with CC and you should be fine ,unless you have 1 hp the chances of them killing you in less than a second is next to none
It’s still either 60 HPS to the entire team or a 30% damage boost ,that’s bad how ?
Exactly ,so you put it here why ?
Even if you can’t aim teammates can still utilize it.
consistently ? at what tier ? at best I can use it to finish off low HP targets or take a pharah/mercy out of the sky.
I’m pretty sure Pine used it as a reload button ,if that’s any indication of how good it is.
(yes I know pro play doesn’t apply to us ,but it’s just an example)

I was replying to michael about it being a zoning ult. On that note though, ironically deep flanks are one of the best ways to get value out of his ult.
