Why won’t blizzard improve the match making system?
Dying game with sbmm, it wont get better until they remove sbmm besides in ranked.
They think we want to wait <5 mins for poor quality matches, but we’d wait 15 for one amazing match.
What I’ve asked for before is give us a MM tolerance toggle option, so let us move a slider if we want a better quality match vs a shorter queue. It could even show the average/estimated queue time depending on how you move the slider.
OW2 matchmaking is abysmal, and IDK how much of it has to do with the 5v5 format sharpening the edges of skill differences.
OW2 uses EOMM. Engagement optimized matchmaking. Something most online multiplayer FPS titles use these days, and a tell-tale sign is the horrid stomps and forced 50/50 WL. SBMM works completely different. It pools players together based on their individual skills which is gathered from their individual statistics and matches the closest ones it can find. That doesn’t happen in OW2, hence the wide/narrow nonsense and the non-stop one-sided stomps.
I suspect the smurfing and cheating really messes with even a good faith matchmaking systems ability to set up decent matches.
Given how leisurely Blizzard seems to respond to various forms of cheating, that has to have a non-trivial impact on the stats they are trying to manage and compare. That’s a lot of ruined games, and that’s a lot of tainted data.
Maybe that isn’t the defining flaw, but that much garbage data has to make whatever problems the existing system has much, much worse.
They think we can only wait 1min for 15 garbage matches that end in 2min, but we won’t wait 5 for a decent semi balanced game
The players uinstall by the minute speaks for itself

I believe it uses a secret sauce of all three: SBMM, EOMM, and DDA.
DDA is the worst kind of skill-expression killer.
It shows up when the game is on it’s dying days, can’t matchmake lobbies at all, even with sbmm/eomm rigging attempts to force the odds.
With SBMM and EOMM you can kind of soft throw to bait out some early losses and convince the game it’s your turn to win.
But with DDA they basically arrest and buffer sudden over/under performance in real-time, mid-match, to try and smooth out the egregious skill level differences of a ded game. They’ll throttle out your io, scale hitbox/hitreg, and possibly even other in-game params to make you a little clunkier or a little faster. Just enough to sus and feel like lag or bad netcode, or suddenly very crisp/clean and fast.
All with the goal of making team fights closer and more engaging when even the rigged matchmaker is being spoofed.
So it doesn’t use it then, as forced 50/50 isn’t a thing and they’ve said stomps aren’t matchmaker related.
OW doesn’t use sbmm. It just uses a basic elo system. Win move up, lose move down. Bit basic but it seems to function well enough.
They learnt from cod that players get upset when there’s strict sbmm.
Cause it’s hard to actually do…and no there is no forced anything…
Its not only matchmaking, the whole game is tragic mess. No nerfs for ashe, buffs for heroes that didnt need it at all. Juno is so broken its not even funny anymore, she can withstand everything. Trash game 100x.
Im so glad Marvel Rivals are 10x more fun and 10x faster que times than this heap of a game. Nerfed my out of this horrible game long time ago. Its so refreshing
Eomm is made up, the only way for the game to make or not make stomps happen is by measuring your skills and putting you with worse or better teamates than the opps. Which is what sbmm does entirely to give you your 50% wr. You can easily manipulate this by reverse boosting obviously.
Because reality doesn’t always align with your fantasies.

EOMM exist and the majority of games uses it, including OW2. EOMM is far easier to manipulate.
I mean it being in ranked is what’s killing the game. Like what is the purpose of it? Match people on their rankings only and not performance. It is literally stupid and the cause of a lot of toxicity.
True story: there’s a little switch on the matchmaker that toggles between “100% perfectly balanced” and “intentionally bad to frustrate players.” At any point, anyone at Blizzard could flick that switch and fix the matchmaker, it’s just that they hate their players and make more money the less happy they are.
This is actually true about all products. Every single company is capable of making a perfect product that works 100% of the time and lasts forever.
I’ve learned matchmaking is bad in ALL PvP games.
All of them.
Not a single PvP game cares about making a good matchmaker.
Rivals is EXACTLY the same.
Some games don’t even HAVE a matchmaker.

It’s literally the most complex matchmaker on the market. They’ve explained how major aspects of it work many times, but people refuse to read. Matchmaking for this game is effective and impressive for anyone looking deeper than surface-level stats and player titles.
Fyi, If you were matched with 9 clones of yourself, you’d still have frequent one-sided matches. You have a good matchmaker now and the community still complains about both quality and queue times.
Nah, eomm is made up by cod glue sniffers. As even xdefiant devs exposed that it was sbmm that was doing everything to manipulate your games lmao.
