so with role lock we cant flex anymore huh? im just amazed that as a community players went from hating one trick mercys and bastions, to now enabling them. two throwers pick healers, now the team dies, no way to work around that. no way to work as a team.
i play dps, off tank, and off healer. what am i supposed to do if im stuck in dps slot and our two tanks can only play rein. ive come across a lot of players that ill switch with, let them dps and ill zarya or smth bc no one in lower elo can play zarya well. this game isnt about being able to tackle the situation best as what suits the team as it is who can climb the highest as their roles. its way more of an individual game now than team.
and i really hope they give some way to not force players into strict roles. if you all really hated certain heroes and metas (goats) so much, why not just learn to counter them, there are enough heroes that can take it on in a competent way. but no one here wanted to learn huh. that or this game has been so toxic that players in comp feel like they can only play what others tell them they can (ie women can only play support or tank) and cant branch out.
EDIT: im fine with there being a role queue function, as long as it DOESNT lock players into the role. 2-2-2 isnt fun honestly, whats scarier? enemy team of 2-2-2 or 4 tanks and a bloodlusting lucio ana combo. even if i lose hard, that is very funny to see. id rather have fun than win. and if you only care about your sr (none of you are esports so calm down lol) you dont know how to enjoy games.
until you have throwers and literally cannot cover them. whats the point of a game with this many heros if it encourages you to just play the same ones
Because you could work around two throwers very easily with the old system huh? The only way to deal with throwers is a better report system.
The majority of the players switching roles mid game were tanks/supports swapping to 3rd/4th dps, only to go 1v6 for the rest of the game and lose miserably.
I’m glad I wont have to deal with these kind of players anymore.
i guess i just miss the old seasons where you could actually switch roles and come at the enemy team with something unexpected, now there is no variables. no fun. no chaos. its a game with a talking monkey and cyber ninjas. i really gotta sit through games with 2 main healers, 2 main tanks, 2 heavy dps… no way to actually have a fun comp huh
Reality is my friend that complete randoms can’t cooperate and people want to play heroes they like and roles they want, it was a highest source of toxicity in this game, now you can choose and don’t have to scream on your teammates.
Checkout League of Legends they introduced same feature as well, enforcing the meta and letting you que up as specific role, it fixed a lot of issues, sadly too much freedom in games like this always leads to more bad experience than usual.

Introduced honor system at first> cracked down on toxic players with bans and added messages thanking players for successful reports or warning because of high reports received> and then finally introduced role que just like here… Sounds familiar?
And a thing is, it worked, it was miles better then before.
but how is that going to allow creativity in new metas and ideas, its just breaking down a game to what players think are safe, not fun or industry setting
Well, for me this chaos existed at one in 50 games. The rest were 4+ dps flaming each other over whos carrying the game (spoiler: no one, we just got stomped), pointless wins vs 4+ Dps teams who did the exact same thing, and the aforementioned tanks/supports to dps swaps who ruined the teams balance. I’m certainly not going to miss that.
On the one hand, even if your chaos was a rare sight, I can get what you’re saying. We will miss this, and this sucks a bit.
Then again, there were people that were against the one hero limit back then (no hero limit was one of the worst design decisions in a game like that). They believed that 2Winstons/2Lucios/2Tracers or 2MCCrees was the epitome of creativity and fun.
And then the rest was history. Seriously, anyone surprised that 2-2-2 is now a thing should have really been playing arcade exclusively this whole time. The kind of Overwatch games those people enjoy are in abundance over there.
Watch Jeff developer update about role Que he talks about all of it, including concerns of reduced creativity, same argument could have been made when they added hero limits, so we couldn’t do 6 winstons cheese.
There are a lot of different comps you can do still, and too much freedom in a team game like this sadly leads to issues because complete randoms are not good at cooperation. It was the case with LoL as well as with this game, now blizzard will have easier time balancing heroes and game will become more healthy overall.
All in all majority of players know what they want to play and they hate then they are forced to pick heroes roles they don’t like, get frustrated if others under perform in their role etc. Complete sh*t show in way too many situations
