Why isn't the stack displayed?

As the title says.
If you know the stack situation, you can leave the match before it starts if you’re playing QP.
As a solo tank player, I don’t want to play against an enemy stack player unless my teammates are also in a stack.

Because Blizzard knows they don’t have enough players to not put solo players against stacks anymore. Same reason they made private profiles the default setting.

People are more likely to leave a match if they’re playing against a stack or a much higher rank player, or god forbid, a stack of high rank players.

Hiding as much information as possible makes the problem less apparent.

That is a really long and roundabout way to answer “perception.”

Four sentences is “really long”?

ggs I guess

Well… Relatively speaking, yes? Compared to one word? Lol?

:flexed_biceps::sweat_smile:

I’m of two minds about this:

On the one hand, I don’t see why they removed the feature to begin with, and I wouldn’t be opposed to bringing it back.

On the other hand, what does it matter, especially in QP? In my decade of playing the game, I honestly can’t say there’s much of a discernible difference between playing against solos in QP, and playing against stacks in QP.

Probably would have needed a rebuild like Cards and LFG with the updated engine, and was low priority…. and still is (if they’ve even thought about it in all these years). There’s also the fact the that teams always show as Tank → Damage → Support now, so players couldn’t be placed next to each other to show groups, although I’d be alright with that changing.

Probably the ones suffering most from such feature would be those not stacked, if I see a 3 stack in the enemy team i’m gonna focus the person out of stack the most because it’s more likely they have no backup. Is this what you want?

I don’t remember doing this when it was visible in OW1…. However, I only spent 2 years with OW1 so was still relatively new by the end, and there is more chance of lone players now the game is 5v5 in core, so I can definitely see it happening.

If more solo players actually treated OW like a team game this would be a nonissue and even now the issue is less about being able to see stacks and more that a lot of solo players arent interested in playing as a team

Because stacks inherently come with more coordination, synergy and lookout ON AVERAGE.

This changes the average “solo queue match” with a sprinkle of uneven distributed teamplay.
You don’t play raw overwatch, you play at least against two meta play layers: Matchmaking and stacks.

Stacks can be a carry, if your team can’t break the stack than you have to somehow make it work and breaking a stack can be very difficult, but that again is playing the metagame and not just Overwatch.

My personal 5 cents:
I am as good of a player as I am because that’s where I specialized in: “Break the carry”.
I know how highly inconsistent matchmaking is because of that specific playstyle I adopted. Stacks are just an additional layer in this mix but it’s frequent enough that you notice it

i still argue it goes deeper than that. being in a pre made team, while not always, does often come with advantages in teamwork, communication, and synergy, that would not happen in a random group of solo players. I still maintain that there is a pretty good advantage if you are in a stack, mainly from the communication aspect alone. Friends are more likely to talk to each other than random strangers solo queued.

you answered your own question.

An easy solution to that would be to introduce looking for group thing again. This way many people can easily find a competent team on their rank range, and be faced with other stacks.

Playwrs assume that being in a stack grants you some super communication ability. Reality is most average geoups are just friends playing together, higher up you go the more effective it becomes but even then the higher up you go the less excuse there is to be out of voice not communicating, so then it comes down to familiarity with who youre playing with which only really comes woth a lot of playtime together and nowadays the higher up playerbase is so small most players likely aee each other regularly so that becomes less of an issue.

This is nothing a solo player cant have in game, this is brought upon themselves in most scenarious.

This is an issue with the randoms and not the friends grouping, if youre not willong to communicate and work with other playwrs in a team game, why are you playing a team game?

of course, i never said it was a catch all, however, the degree of likelihood that a group of friends are going to communicate is higher than a group of strangers. Plus, there a much higher likelihood that a group of friends getting together to group up is going to provide team synergy, better call outs, and the general idea that a group of friends who play together all the time are going to work better together than a group of people who never met each other would ever do. I understand that its not always going to be the case, but, the odds of a group of friends having a better cohesiveness together is much greater than a group of random people who never met each other.

again, were talking about the average of it happening. A group of friends are going to be much more comfortable with each other than a random group of solo people. This means they are going to be naturally more talkative in chat, probably their own discord server. Random people who never met each other are probably going to have a very little chance of talking, mainly because there is little chance of someone in the chat reciprocating, and with how people are today, you’re more likely to get someone to tell you to shut up and just play the game, when dealing with random strangers. Half the time, they are probably not even listening to the game. Many people will listen to music as opposed to even listening to the game audio.

its a common fact that people in QP, heck even in my low ranked games, nobody talks…ever.

Tbh youve kinda hit the nail on the head with some of this respnonse about the core issue with OW nowadays, its not about stacks vs solos, its not about matchmaking (which of course isnt perfect). Its that most players nowadays simply do not care about game quality, they might say they do but when it comes to things like being a team player, working with ithers and generally creating a better playing environment, theyre not interested.

A lot of OW problems recently start andstop with the playerbase but theyre not ready for that conversation

Because people ruin everything

The game used to have this….what is the only thing that came from it? Toxicity….people leaving matches and giving up immediately…people getting falsely reported for boosting and such

So instead now we have paranoid people thinking its blizz’s way of preventing people from knowing the truth they believe and people begging for solo queue (as if that would change anything)

This is probably why they don’t show it.
