Why isn't racist words an automatic ban?

How does this game not just instantly ban a user who uses racist words. No text changes, no different letters. Pure hate.

It should be. However there’s a couple words for countries or for colors in foreign languages that could either be potentially innocent or completely racist. Automated systems can’t always tell the difference. In almost all cases it’s probably racist, but almost isn’t good enough for automatic bans.

That said racism is bannable and should be delt with swiftly. If you report it, they should be banned quickly. If not, that’s a problem.

You’d think it would be. I know slurs aren’t either, considering there’s been times ive reported them and never got a ā€˜thanks for the report’ feedback message

B and N are very close in the keyboard. Imagine missclicking the B if you wanted to write ā€œBiggerā€.

yeah i dont think thats the case. in no other language does the ā€˜n’ word exist as another word.

It absolutely does in Spanish. It’s the color black. Also even in English it’s a country in Africa.

Racism is wrong and should be banned. I’m just saying there’s a problem with a fully automated system. Reporting should be sufficient to deal with it.

Well with the n word maybe someone who was black said it as slang. It would be wrong to punish them for that. But the n word with the hard r should be an instant ban. Telling someone to end their life should be an instant ban as well. Though I could also see someone telling baby dva to kill herself to reset so there is some grey area there too. Any slur that doesn’t have a double meaning could be an automatic ban though.

i was talking about the word with the double G, e,r. fair enough there is a similar word that does mean the colour black but i have never seen anyone say that to someone in my 10 years of gaming lol.

I’ve heard people say it before in a derogatory way. Yeah, it’s uncommon. I have also seen people get offended by black beans at the grocery store. So, ya know.

You can say any word in a derogatory sense, even words that properly describe a person, that doesn’t mean the word itself is derogatory.
I can call you a Human but say it in a way that sounds like you are lower than dirt.
The Spanish word for the color black, which is also the way to describe a Black person is racist only if the person hearing it takes it as racist. It isn’t on it’s own merit.

This happens frequently for Japanese players because they have a specific way of saying ā€œRun Away,ā€ that sounds like the Hard R. Automatic Systems or Persons with no study or respect of other cultures will take it as racist.

Completely automated bans are almost never a good idea. The problem is that we don’t seem to have a big enough moderation team. Blizzard’s solution is AI scanning for such words, but I just don’t see it working out that well.

That was my point. It’s why automated systems for this type of thing don’t work.

its possible they managed to input a non traditional letter into the game which is commonly used in scam operations as some cant always tell the difference

Recording to Logbook.

Slang or not, if you can get suspended for just saying ā€œDamnā€ or even ā€œEZā€, then it should be banable as well. I don’t care if you are black or not. They ban everything else so why not this as well?

because blizzard wants money they dont care what happens
