Why isn't brigitte closer to how she looked in Honor and Glory?

Like i get that the high definition cinematic models have some notable differences as compared to the in-game model (most notably quality), but atleast the basic shapes, colors and design are pretty on-par. Even for characters that only had a few seconds of screen times during more promotional stuff for OW/HOTS.

But then comes Brigitte… Like, at this point i don’t even blame Reddit for saying her face is copy-pasted from mercy cause she doesn’t look remotely close to how she was shown to be in her first cinematic appearence.

Like since its an in-game model, i know the quality won’t be the same but the shapes and colors are not even remotely similar, and they indeed look much like Mercy. And the irony with all this is that Mercy HAD a cinematic model in “We are overwatch” and it still looks on par with with in-game model. So what went wrong here?

Like overwatch has often been critizied for having too samey looking females (honestly my complaint on this regard stopped when Moira happened), but this regard is a true offender concidering they gave literally a same face for a character that already had established and unique look in her cinematic appearence so just… why? Like they couldn’t even get the basic eye shape and colors right for god sake.

Like, if it was from 2d to 3d i’d get the difference but this is literally from 3d to 3d here.

I honestly didn’t think it was an issue really. Though I’ll admits that Brig’s Defender HI reach down and smile moment basically feels and looks like Mercy. Probably doesn’t help that Mercy has that whole “not aging” storyline and looks 10 years younger than she is. So Brig and Mercy could easily look like sisters.

It’s simple video game sales though. Make a bunch of pretty female heroes. Use the weird, ugly, obese, robotic, and old motifs on the guys. Straight guys get the pretty ladies to look at, straight ladies get the pretty ladies to play as, lesbians score both ladies to look at and play as, and the gay guys get a bunch of old, deformed, and weird looking guys.

The issue here is not even the samey-face syndome. Is that they already had an established face that was somewhat unique (while still average pretty face), but they completely disregarded it and made Mercy’s sister i guess?

My guess is they didn’t plan on making Brigitte a playable character until much later. When designing her for gameplay I’m guessing the aesthetics changed to give her a more “support” look.

That or they used Mercy’s face as a base to make development go faster.

Only one woman is allowed to be buff at once and we already have Zarya.

Only one. Any more and the spacetime continuum breaks.

She looks nothing like Mercy, this is just consipracy theory or something, i find it ridiculous.

To me all the female overwatch characters have very similar face shapes and structures except for Zarya and of course Orisa. If it were just an art style thing I’d understand, but looking at the variation on the male human characters, (Torb, McCree, Junkrat, Rein, etc), it’s clear that Blizzard can create unique faces but they just don’t take risks for female characters. I wish designers weren’t so afraid of having some variaiton in female facial designs.

They do, but not all people can or want to make the distinction. I have no issue telling all of them appart with ease and the thought that they look alike has never even crossed my mind, and no one that i know of has any issue with this, i can understand if some people cannot make the distinction but that doesn’t mean that everyone has the same problem nor should the devs have to worry about this, you cant and will never make everyone happy.

Yeah, their costume designs and character animations are all super unique, I’ve never had any trouble telling the actual characters themselves apart. I also appreciate at least some attempt at body diversity within the cast, this is more of an issue I take with female CG facial designs as a whole, and Blizzard just happens to be a part of it. They’re hardly the only or the worst offenders.

I was actually talking about their faces as that is what is being discussed here, they dont look anything alike, it’s like saying that all asians look the same, and i’ve hear people say that, that is why i’m not surprised there are people who cannot make the distinctions, i’m not saying they do it on purpose or out of spite, maybe they just dont have that ability to identify the differences.

For argument’s sake, I’m gonna say that Brigitte wasn’t geared up and ready to fight in “Honor and Glory,” so the way we see her in game is different because of that.

That rule breaks when you pick DVA junker skin.

I was thinking the exact same thing the other day, if you go into Hero Gallery, all the females have faces that veer to the side…and you can see that its all the same heart shapes with pointy chins and small upturned noses. Even symmetra…if you replace her dark skin with white skin…will look western. Dva with blonde hair looks white and not asian, Why do games force people to adapt to a western look instead of being proud to be their own ethnicity?

The same person can look different under different lightning or due to a number of circumstances, this is an overreaction due to some people not being able to tell them apart IMO and i don’t blame them, some people just cant do it, but we can’t make that an actual issue if most agree that it isnt.

Some might, but ironically enough OW is one of the games that doesn’t do that, i’m actually sorry for those who cannot make the distinction but it is there and most people can tell the difference without much trouble.

Honestly I’m fine with her in game face, I don’t see you guys are so irritated by it.
