Ok so hear me out: Gabriel Reyes is “currently” reaper, Jack Morrison is 76, and Ana Amari is Shrike, but still just called Ana. What gives, Blizzard?

Why isn’t Genji called Ninja?
“Shrike” was just an alias. Reaper named himself/was named, 76 was part of a genetics-enhancing program so there were likely 75 more soldiers before him.

Why isn’t Ana called Ana
Probably not. Some heroes (Shrike, 76, Reaper, Sombra) use them as aliases because everyone thinks they’re dead. Tracer got hers from when she was a pilot, not when she joined Overwatch, since they called her Cadet Oxton in the Uprising mode.
Reinhardt’s hasn’t been in any situation where he’s needed one. He went from the German Military to Overwatch and they just called him by his real name.
Edit: Also the name “Soldier 76” is simply a reference to some older work by Chris Metzen (former Senior VP and HUGE creative influence on Blizzard’s other titles).

Reinhardts nickname. ya know, cause he got his friend killed when he was younger by overextending and not shielding.

He was one of the scientists overseeing the genetics program.
When you make 76 bots, their names or Soldier 77, Soldier 78, etc. instead of Bastion 2, Roadhog 3, etc.
Also, with the Omnic crisis threatening to destroy the world, I doubt they made just one super-soldier.
Well we know now that Reaper did previously have a Soldier number (24 I think?). But still, how is it that “Shrike is just an alias” and “Reaper is a name he chose.” Uhh sounds like they are both chosen names. Sounds like alias MEANS chosen name.

I guess they just prefer us to know her as Ana, and that’s 100% fine.
Funny because Genji actually does have an old alias too. He used to be called “Sparrow”.
As for Ana, Not sure. I guess for her, Shrike was only valid while Overwatch existed.

Those are all names the character chooses to go by. The reason Ana is the odd one out is because in lore she comes out of hiding to help the world when it needs her.
