I’m not a total scrub, but the way characters move in Overwatch makes it a lot harder to put my crosshair exactly where I want it to be, when I want it there. It feels… unnatural, as if World of Warcraft character movement was implanted into a first person shooter. Its ugly. Characters feel as if they move instantly, instead of accelerating up to max speed. Why is this in a shooting game?
Widowmaker console players, what do you do about this? I’ve spent a lot of time just screwing around in the practice range adjusting settings and playing free for all, but really nothing at all feels good enough. I can’t snipe as well in Overwatch as I can in any other shooter game.
I don’t play on console but from what I hear there is a lot less aim assist in overwatch console than there is in other shooter games, so you have to be a lot more precise, which isn’t easy with a controller. That’s why all the best players on console are using KBM.
Aim assist isn’t the problem, it can be completely turned off. It’s still the same problem that has to do with character movement. I think it would be easier if Widowmaker’s scope range was increased to like, x12 instead of its… x4? The scope itself isn’t a sniper’s scope, its more like an acog range scope
not when they’re right on top of you. have you ever tried sniping someone who was 20m from you with just her 4x? it happens a lot on pc and it’s pretty difficult to do because it takes too long to line up the shot while they’re firing at you. I don’t know about console but at least on pc, widow is a primary target for any hitscan, and the time it would take to line up a shot at 12x zoom would put her in too much danger.
I dunno if you’re aware of this, but snipers are supposed to be very far away from whatever their target is. If the enemy has closed the distance on you, you should certainly be at a disadvantage
then that’s why you think widow is so hard, because there are only about 2 or 3 long range spots with LOS to the point on any given map, so the enemy is targeting you right away because they always know where you are, you’re only using half the viable sniping points. Widow is intended as mid-long range and her sniping points are only roughly 50-70m from the point or choke, these are at the best of times. At the worst of times she’s within as little as 30m range. a 12x scope would make such positioning impossible, and make Widow extremely situational, we’re talking Sym 2.0 situational. Widow would be the troll pick that was only ever taken out as a troll or to take out a bastion or torb that’s giving the team problems.
It’s the case with any console shooter; controllers were not made for precision. Games like Halo and Goldeneye put a computer managed aim assist in for a reason.
No it isn’t. I’ve been playing console shooters since Goldeneye, I still use Legacy Thumbsticks. I can easily snipe fast moving characters in other games, it’s only a problem in Overwatch. It feels awkward. And so does aiming with any other hitscan hero in OW for that matter
And on console. A lot of widow players have tunnel vision already and that would increase that. It´s not like enemies walk in slowmo, the run. Tracking them and keeping an overview of the battlefield would be a nightmare.
So does Overwatch. Aim Assist on Overwatch is humongous at the default setting of 100 and 100 Aim Assist Window. It doesn’t help sniping though, it just gets in the way so I usually have it at 0
