Literally why? It’d be way more popular than the actual game, and there are so many interesting concepts that could be explored. I wanna see Tracer’s backstory animated. I wanna see Widow’s training with Talon. And so on.
Blizzard cares so much about making money, judging by the $20 skins, but won’t make a show that’d make more money than the actual game? It makes no sense.

I would assume Activision doesn’t see enough profit being made from it.

I’m sorry but why is this something that seems possible? Overwatch’s lore really isn’t that deep. And just listen to the dialogue in the game. It’s very cheesy…
Blizzard isn’t really known for their great storytelling.
That really doesn’t make any sense though. It’d likely make more money than the actual game. OW is the only game I’ve ever seen with so many people attached to it’s lore. For example, the backlash when PvE was cancelled. Many old players that don’t play anymore would watch an Overwatch show, and most new players probably would as well.
There is way more than plenty of enough room for an Overwatch show in the lore.
But the question is would it be good? And I’m sorry, but Overwatch lore simply isn’t that exciting.
The game has lore about 2 inches deep and a foot wide.
If it’s of quality like plenty of OW lore has been so far, then I’m sure the people that are interested and invested in the lore would enjoy it.
Their animation department has been incredible for sure. Their wonderful animation and storytelling is one thing Activision Blizzard still kept to this day. And I think it even has gotten over time even after the merge with Activision.
But like others say, there might not be that much profit motive to make an animation series or even a movie based on Overwatch.
At best, they’ll probably just keep making promotional cut-scenes for new events, trailers, and upcoming story missions. But a full fledged Overwatch animation or a movie? I doubt that’ll ever happen, even if they have all the lore figured out.
Of course. Saying the people who are interested in the lore would be interested in more stuff isn’t exactly groundbreaking news.
No matter what, a show will have an audience.
It’s odd really. The cinematics and shorts have always been amazing with blizzard, even far back as Starcraft 1 and Warcraft. But on the other hand Blizzards one attempt at a movie, kind of bombed.
I think the Warcraft movie killed Blizzards confidence in any shows based on their games. Which is sad, cause I think a lot of them could do well. Especially as a TV series.

debatable.
early wow’s lore was pretty interesting. but lets be honest here was Leagues story all that compelling on own?
yet they have arcane
they (blizzard) could of had an animated show that blew peoples minds and made people want to play their game…but instead they wasted 4 years on a pve mode that was cancelled lol
the concept of overwatch is interesting, its like a militarized super hero thing but the heroes are by in large normal human instead of weird hyper specific powers like “I HAVE THE POWERS OF A SNAKE”. its “i can kinda time travel” or “im a robot ninja”

Anything is possible if they bring in a talented writer.
Until they manage to make people accept buying a show piecemeal to watch, they’re not going to hire writers, animators, and pay voice actors for a show.
… we’re partway there with a kajillion different streaming services and one that actually charges you to watch AND to “rent” new movies (the D+) , but we’re not at the level they’ve gotten with gaming where they can iterate on something already long since made and just crank out digital costumes to print money.
