Why is the name 'Wrecking Ball'?

Well, my first impressions were: “Holy, this looks dope…” and I know people are saying “Hamster in a killing game” and stuff but that’s how it is. Overwatch is supposed to be a cartoony style game. Then I saw that the name was Wrecking Ball and it just doesn’t make sense I mean just look at these one named heroes and just suddenly “WRECKING BALL”. It’s kinda bad and i want a petition for Blizzard to put the name Hammond instead of wReCkInG bAlL… xd
Also he looks like a fun hero to play and I might play him but his voicelines look kinda bad-made and just looks like someone use Clownfish for skype and talked as a robot. These two things are what I personally dont like about Hammond but everything else looks interesting. :slight_smile:

Wrecking Ball is the mech. Hammond is the pilot.

Because he is literally a hamster in a wrecking ball. The name “Hammond” is under his description.

Yeahhhhh, the name is weird.
But i’m glad we got a long range hitscan tank.
I Always wanted a long range hitscan tank.
His character design feels a bit off, but i guess i’ll get used to it.

Wrecking Ball is his showbiz name. The Undertaker’s real name is Mark.

I agree, Hammond the Hamster sounds super cute. Wrecking Ball is blegh.

Plus in the argument that the mech is called Wrecking Ball - D.Va is called D.Va and not MEKA.

Overall though, super impressed so far - a tank I really enjoy :smiley:

The name IS a bit goofy, as it’s completely literal.

I think it would’ve been better if they just stuck with Hammond. But it doesn’t bother me that much.

It is his gladiator’s nickname in the Junkertown arena: the Scrapyard.
Also, calling him Hammond would have separated Genji and Hanzo in the hero gallery, and they don’t want to do that!

I hope it gets changed to Hammond. Sure it’s his mech, but it still sounds quite silly (please save us from a silly character and a silly name). I know I’ll be referring to him as Hammond.

“D.Va” is an idol name for Hana Song. Her mech is a military weapon. Hammond is a gladiator. People don’t go to see him. They go to see his mech.

I played him and I know everything about the story but the name is kinda cringy idk like WRECKING BALL…
Just look at the hero selection it looks so different…
