If you look at the calm before the storm teaser. The dog is wearing a space suit.
I personally think hammond is the dog located next to winstons room. In the lunar map you see winstons footprints from his room, he smashes down the door for hammond to rescue him and escape.
In hammonds room you see plans of a side capsule linked to a main escape pod.
I believe winston created the plans, left it for hammond to understand what his plan is.
During the escape i believe hammond was separated on entering earth and landed in Australia and winston at watchpoint Gibralta.
Hanmond being in Australia could have been found by the junker queen and she had found a soft spot for him and only him.
Now junker queen could have found out hammomd belongs to winston and thus allowing junker queen to enter overwatch?
This is my theory, any thoughts??

I keep hearing of a dog, but I don’t see it. Can someone put up a picture of the dog in the teaser?
To the right of no bots spray painted on the wall. The dog is mostly covered by the scrapyard and power posters.
To be completely honest with you, I am not sure why anyone would give anything blocks to play with in their cage. Like, blocks, really?

Ikr, I’ve seen children and monkeys play with or chew on blocks but that’s about it 
To answer OP’s title question Horizon Lunar colony was experimenting on animals which went wrong. So far we know they had Gorillas, chimpanzees, and monkeys. They may have been experimenting on dogs too or it was just something they added to promotional artwork for the colony. Unless a dev chimes in all we can do is speculate.
What is with this recent obsession in the community with making Hammond something besides a chimp / small gorilla and tying him to the Junker Queen?

That wall of posters has been a Rorschach Test for the community. People are seeing whatever they want on that thing then using photoshop to try and outline it and call it a hidden “layer”.
Its like those people who see faces in trees or religious icons on pieces of toast.

I think the first is partially due to people not wanting another primate and others probably not wanting JQ or just trying to smush them together in one release without it being a double-hero release.
