Why is the competitive 6v6 mode Open Queue?

I was really excited to hear 6v6 ranked came to OW so I installed the game again, open it and see it’s open queue only?

Why?

The vast majority of people that wanted 6v6 to come back wanted it to be role queue.

Even if you want to add both 6v6 open queue and role queue eventually, why would you start with open queue?

Majority of players in 5v5 prefer role queue, so I don’t understand why you’d handle 6v6 ranked release like this?

There would not be enough tanks who would commit to tank in role queue if two were required, but there are enough tanks willing to flex Also, with bans coming soon, I think the meta will naturally begin to favor two tank team comps again.

I don’t mind the OQ format with Max 2 tanks. So far, I’ve had nothing but a fantastic experience!

2-2-2 wasn’t a deal breaker for me, but rather the healthier ecosystem wherein you can meaningfully interact with every member of the enemy team.

Really, I was just sick of being stat checked by Tank while playing either DPS or Tank, and I was tired of being hard focused on Tank.

Was hoping for 6v6 RQ as well, but OQ with a tank cap is workable. You usually end up with 2-2-2 or 1-3-2. Both are workable.

Suspect Blizz saw the queue times were better with OQ Tank cap and decided to go that route for competitive test.

RQ test already happened.

Would’ve preferred RQ, too, but it is what it is.

They started with 2-2-2 RQ, OP. That happened in December.

The reason that RQ’s 1-2-2 nowadays is because 2-2-2 RQ’s not sustainable. That’s no reason for OQ modes to stay 5v5, though, so it makes sense to upgrade it to 6v6 (but with a tank cap to avoid gross tankfests). Those folks in 5v5 can enjoy their RQ.
