Is there a reason? Every time I see the battle pass symbol next to an item in the hero gallery it just reminds of the Null Sector logo
Because ones an evil soulless mass with empire levels of war profiteering, metal soldiers and cold calculations to bring humanity to it’s knees and the other is null sector.
As for design wise I guess they wanted something to look unique instead of just the letters BP or whatever and this is what the designer came up with. Kinda how they did the shop logo.

Yeah I figured they’d want to use a distinct symbol, it’s just really similar to one they’ve already used. At least the Shop symbol is a distinctive “S”

Why did Microsoft give Halo over to people named 343 Industries?
For those of you who don’t know, the “343” comes from a Halo character named 343 Guilty Spark. Guilty Spark would go on to betray the series protag Master Chief in the level Two Betrayls.
343 Industries is named after a character that betrayed the Chief; the mascot and face of Halo. Microsoft gave Halo over to people named after a robot that betrayed the mascot and face of halo!

True. If they really wanted it to stand out they could’ve done maybe a ticket icon, the letters BP in some creative way or have their own unique icon for that season. Though that would be more time consuming have each season be a unique icon.
A lot of entertainment/media can have themes, ideas, topics etc and exaggerates them to the extreme or subtly buries them that you might not even notice it. But your brain did.
This is kinda sci-fi’s bread and butter and Overwatch is dripping with loads of sci-fi themes. Like robots living among humans, genetic manipulation, cyborgs being common place, a utopia/dystopia society etc.
Ok now I’m just imaging Ramattra starting a kickstarter or gofund me to build his army
