- low survivability
- Poor mobility
- Poor range
I’m not saying she is high skill either, but how exactly is the current Symmetra low skill?
Is it the 3 turrets?

The term low skill is so overused. You can take pretty much any ability and look at it in a way that makes it seem “low skill”.
Nanoboost: No aim required = low skill
Firestrike: Big hitbox = low skill
Widowmaker headshot: Instakill = low skill
people probably ignore that sym isn’t a support with a lock-on anymore; i believe that kinda contributes to why she’s referred to as lowskill.
Her niche involves teleport no jutsu and hitting shields, not exactly very mechanically demanding
For the most part people are using low skill term wrong and only applying it to a mechanic like aim
Better example of low skill would be moth meta Mercy or ultimates.
Yeah good timing, awareness, and gamesense separate good ult use from bad but no one is going to scrim on Widow to work on getting good at wall hack.
Low skill has been the excuse for ages to nerf the heroes that dps hated the most.
Any Hero that low rank players find strong and easy to play are considered low skill, usually based on aim mechanics which is really the tip of the iceberg when it comes to skill. If you try playing her at +Diamond she actually requires more skill than the average hero. She’s a glass cannon that requires a lot of map awareness and positioning and a lot of team communication to get value out of her kit.
I think because she’s so unpopular, people forget she had a whole rework that removed her lock-on and made her less turret dependant (which didn’t work). Having so much working against her she definitely isn’t low skill but that’s how they view her for whatever reason
Symmetra requires a lot of proper target prioritization and actual aim if you want to land those turrets in good spots, especially at a distance - they’ll latch onto anything, the stupid things, and it’s easy to clip them on objects in the game; walls or signs or the ground/payload, etc. Also, why don’t you spend a whole game trying to hit people with those floating orbs and let me know how ‘mechanically demanding’ it isn’t - because lemme tell ya, you have to not only time it right so that the orb is lethal enough to be worth sending, but also predict where someone is going to go and have launched the orb already by the time they get there due to travel speeds - it’s not easy by any means.
Let’s be real, Sym very rarely uses primary fire, that beam is useless unless you’ve been given a dumb Rein or Orisa that lets you just gobble them up, which is getting rarer and rarer these days. Outside of those two characters, who are you using beam on all the time? Genji? Pfft.
Ive seen people calling widow low skill here so
Dont beleive any forumers says nowadays!
Seriously - there’s also different skills, aim is a different skill than gamesense, and some characters really require more of one or the other in order to thrive. You absolutely cannot win with Symmetra if you have poor gamesense or map knowledge/understanding of the physical layout in the game. You absolutely must be using every piece of the map to the fullest advantage to get anything of value out of her, from knowing that your turrets will be safer tucked into this little wedge vs. that one, or how this shrub is juuuust big enough to hide a turret and the one right beside it isn’t - that stuff makes or breaks a Sym player in my experience.
That teleporter is trash, too, so you’re basically playing a character with one ability - turrets - and one gun - her orbs. The TP being left behind for your teammates to use? Not exactly active in a battle, is it? Oh what’s that, you want to use TP offensively somehow? Well it gets destroyed half the time before it even gets a chance to deploy, and really only works on the most oblivious of enemies.
Yeah, real reliable damage ya got there!
Not really related but I would like to inform thee that turrets can be stuck in objects like broken TVs on Echienwald, Vending Machines in Busan (not Hanamura) and treasure chests on Blizzard World and some are nearly indestructible.
Symmetra has a low skill floor to be impactful at particular levels of play.
This is NOT the same as saying she’s “low skill” overall though.
Symmetra, at particular ranks of play, has the capacity to get a lot of value from completely autonomous facets in her kit- namely her turrets - they can’t miss, have unlimited ammo, they do CC, can be chained together- etc.
In lower ranks where players lack the map awareness for places to look or reactions needed to respond quickly to a turret?
A simple turret will destroy them even if the turret is in a bad spot and all the sym player had to do was “put it there”.
Now sym is NOT easy in the sense that once her opponents are aware of her turrets and have the skills to counter them that they become largely useless and more of a nuisance.
Syms value comes from resource management, TP utilization, and positioning to take advantage of her short range beam and good predictions with her charger orbs.
This is where the skill comes from with sym- of which there’s a lot required, and is impressive to see.
Sym orbs is a spammable weapon, you can make it big brain big prediction, but in the end it’s also spray and pray, much like OG Junkrat’s grenades.
I would rather spam it into large group of enemies and farm for ult than calculating, and it works, as intended.
Since role queue I m guaranteed to have at least 2 big targets to prime the beam (if they don’t have shields? Better, they will just die to my spam or my other hitscan dps, or my Rein shatter.) The rest is just Moira level of aim to hit once the beam maxed out.
And aiming turrens is essentially the same as shooting bots. Objectives don’t move, I may struggle a bit to avoid unintended collision, but after that it s pretty consistent.
She isn’t, people throw around that she is cause of her old lock on. She was brain dead cause she didn’t need to aim.
Even though those same people who played her on defence to try and secure a win who had amazing aim couldn’t make a no-aims, no brains work, despite being ‘brain dead’ and needing no skill…
Funny that, huh?
i dont see her shine on lower ranks either
in fact shes ALWAYS the one that switches off first
Because she killed some people in quickplay and her being easy is obviously the reason /s.
The ‘skill’ argument is largely moot for this game and is thrown around way too much, generalising ‘skill’ as a means to say they died through unfair circumstances rather than any fault of their own.
You’re completely right. Unfortunately, these forums like to construe skill floor with low skill, forgetting there is the ceiling to keep in mind. The application of specific abilities can be considered low skill, but that does not go for the hero themselves, who has much wider applications.
see it’s because people like this guy that sees nothing past “omg tp taxi, turret auto aim, and shooting shields only” yet refuse to acknowledge:
the fact that there is tracking involved when shooting actual enemies and that her beam hitbox is smaller than zarya’s
any gamesense needed for a sym to know when primary should be used
projectile aim with one of the slowest projectiles in the game (much harder than faster projectiles)
the need to be predicting what the enemy does due to all sym’s delays, e.g. if wanting to use tp to escape you need to be 2s ahead of the enemy
ANY
STRATEGIC
INVOLVING
Its because she has 40dps turrets in her kit. Everything else is null and void because of that apparently.
I personally think she’s low skill because her aim style is probably one of the easiest in the damage category (easiest/forgiving tracking weapon and massive projectile) but I honestly a sym that can use tp and turrets well I wouldn’t call low skill.
