Yet… Way less mechanical skill is needed to use her effectively? For example, Widowmaker, Ashe and Sojourn are comfortably defeated by a Winston counterpick or even a very aggressive Moira. Yet Pharah has a much larger gap with Widowmaker and Ashe is needed. It says a lot about a hero when the most effective counter for a high flying Pharah… is to run Pharah. Even tactical visor seems dubious versus a damage amped Pharah.
Her old counter, Bastion, just can’t seem to out shoot her at range either. I just think she’s kind of bad game design in the terms of counter picking. Pick any other character abd they have a decent counterpick.
echo is really good at killing pharas its hard for her to hit mid air shots and echo can just melt phara with stickies and beam plus flying up to her makes doing that a bit easier to
i mean i play widow and ashe but i am sure there is an easier way. im just an average widow/ashe so if the pharah has a good pocket mercy its a bit difficult. i have had games where i shut down a pharah (even with mercy) with widow but its rare lol. i probably should try echo out
The one counter that doesn’t need that much mechanical skill is torb, it just needs sneaky turret placements or sneaky turret placed after a pharah has shown her self… Not to mention a nice bolt hit does crazy damage
The better your aim is, the more of a disadvantage the Pharah is at for being up in the sky. If Pharah had to aim as much as Ashe, Widowmaker, or Sojourn with her projectile speed she’d be awful. If they buffed her projectile speed to be that of Ashe, Widow, or Sojourn beam (hitscan) she’d be better off not sitting in the sky exposing herself.
The reason she’s easier mechanically is because she puts herself at a disadvantage by being up in the sky without good cover and comparatively takes longer to kill people at range.
Literally every hitscan counters pharah. I don’t know what level you play at, but in higher levels, where everyone has “mechanical skill,” she is horrible.
Its not really about Pharah herself but the positioning. Aiming up skews/warps the vertical and horizontal aim patterns when you flick and acquire targets. The more violent the angle is, the harder it is to aim.
This also happens when a Genji dashes and starts double jumping over your head, its almost impossible to kill at that point. Due to this, you need range and that also forces good aim and hitscan. The other option, is Echo, who can fly closer to her and with her projectiles and beam can blast her out of the sky really fast. The issue comes with trying to survive the travel when you are not airborne, to a position below her.
Sombra used to be a great Phamercy counter, but I guess the enemy Sombra you had to play against every 15 matches was much worse than the Phamercy every 3 matches.
Pharah is not a problem on her own. Mercy is. Mercy makes her horrible to play against. Every damage gets outhealed and if you manage to kill her she just rezzes. Cannot even camp the body properly in higher ranks. The rez gets shielded, bubbled, suzud, etc.
If anything, this patch was a straight buff to Genji. Mei got nerfed hard against him. The only way he gets outshined is by Tracers in top 500… so he can dominate everywhere else, even throughout most of GM.
That’s just not true at all. Pharah moves in very predictable and slow patterns. Really easy to kill for anyone that’s a decent hitscan. In any rank above gold you’ll almost always be met with double hitscan if you play pharah and you have to play around cover constantly and make good use of your E to avoid dying.
you really should! 9/10 times i make pharah rage swap to cass/widow/ashe when i play echo and im only like… average. its really easy to bully her with echo. granted, you also need good support if its pharah-mercy
