Why is sniping in this game so hard?

Ive once again committed to learning widow and have spent 2 weeks playing her almost exclusively (in QP). I had very little success so I decided to try practicing sniping in other games like CS:GO, CoD, Apex, Tf2 ect and It’s so much easier!
I have a harder time hitting hogs body than headshots in these other games. What makes widowmaker different?

It has to do with movement acceleration for sure.

The A/D spam is way too much.

Play Hanzo … much easyer to get headshots than with Widow.

CS is the home of A-D spamming and bunnyhopping and you can still land 2 bodyshots (or a head) much more easyly.

I just played black ops 2 and the movements there are awful… I rather have them fast like in ow tbh.

Mccree junk and phara would destroy everyone as you would move so slow.

I prefer it. It requires better position and somewhat stalking your prey, rather than EpiC QuiCk FlicKS

My worst experience has been Ana.

The speed of A/D spam messes her already messed up hitbox of her head into something worse.

I mean yes widow takes a lot by yourself to be good with her, but doing good on widow just doesn’t fall onto you. A lot of high level widow players have said “A good Widow is only as good as her team”. Where your team is, what your team is doing, plays a big part on making shots a lot easier for the widow.

Trying to hit D.va when she’s not in mech is hilariously bad on this game, not only is there no movement acceleration, but her entire character model leans to one side depending on which side your strafing, so when trying to score a shot on her as Widow…it just feels like a stupid nightmare.

That may be one of the issues. All characters have very different hitboxes while other games have the same (or pretty similar) ones.

If you’re trying to kill a D.VA out of mech the best time to do it is when she’s coming out of mech or getting back into mech.

Ow is to “pretty” for its own good. People compain that the tf2 models look too stiff and ugly but at least they don’t bob their heads or lean forwards when walking or do these small little movements that mess up the hitboxes

Counterstrike has A-D spam, every game does. However OW is the only multiplayer shooter I’ve ever heard of that has no movement acceleration.

I can’t really say much for Apex or CS:GO… But I played my fair share of CoD back in the day and spent a lot of time playing Sniper in TF2.
I’d say it’s partially the speed and the less predicabl movement in Overwatch that makes Sniping harder … at least aim wise. Charatcers in TF2 move slowly… even the Scout feels relatively slow compared to OW. In CoD (mostly played a ton of CoD MW1 ) enemies tend to be very similar to each other in shape and animation… making it easier to get used to…
Overwatch has all these different animations, abilities, hitboxes… just takes longer to get used to I guess.

Actually, Ana’s critbox barely moves with strafing. It’s a weird critbox yes, but it’s also one of the most stationary.

Also these games allow you to contribute ok with bodyshots. While a boddyshotting widow is usually considered a wasted slot.

CSGO has movement acceleration. AD spam is not that effective.

In Overwatch you reach full speed instantly so AD spam is strong.
Same thing with crouch spam. In CS your character ‘tires’ and slows down when crouch spamming until you can’t crouch any more.

there is no mass inertia so people can instantly change direction or stop movement.

I doubt blizzard would ever add movement acceleration now unfortunately :expressionless:

This. OW has the laziest and dumbest version of movement. I guess because it tries to be as simple as it can be to include the largest playerbase possible. But yeah, it makes dodging shots very easy, even for bigger targets.

It is also why it is VERY important to have good refresh rate and FPS in OW to hit shots on fast targets. Makes it much easier.
