Why is shield hp even a thing?

Mccree has a robotic arm: 200 HP no Shield HP.
Symmetra has a robotic arm: 100 HP and 100 Shield HP.
Zenyatta an omnic: 150 Shield HP and 50 HP
Zarya: A normal human being with no robotic parts on her body 200 HP 200 Shield HP

now for the grand final:

ECHO A ROBOT WITH 0 SHIELDS BUT 200 HP

where is the logic here?

the shield health came because of either being a robotic hero like an omnic, or by having a robotic part to your body like symmetras arm. mccree has a robotic arm but has no shield HP

Well, I always thought of it from a lore perspective. Symm is an average human, but has the power to bend light around her. Echo, yeah she’s made of metal but also made to fly so it is thin and light. Zarya has her gun providing the shield, but she is actually pretty buff at 200hp which is more than say baby dva as a young healthy human at 150. Tracer, like Dva is fit, but not Zarya buff.

It would make sense for Echo to have 50-100hp of shield instead of her 100hp normal health

They are in different roles.

Echo is still a robot? zenyatta is made of metal too why doesn’t echo have shields just like him?

She probably originally did when she was a Support.

Giving a flying DPS regenerating health would be a little too strong though, no? It basically means the enemy team has to have a sniper that can land consistent shots. McCree or Soldier 76 wouldn’t be an effective counter outside of their ultimates.

I heard she chopped her arm off so she could manipulate hard light with the robo-arm. Not sure if that’s true or not, but I won’t question the Symm mains.

Yeah I never understood shield health either. I get why a hero like Zen has it but some of the others just don’t make sense to me. Especially Sigma, like what is the point of him having 100 shields, doesn’t even make sense to me balance wise since Sigma already gets temporary shields from grasp and waiting for 100hp to recharge really isn’t worth it lmao

I thought it would make more sense for robotic chars/parts to have armour instead of health :man_shrugging:t2: To me at least, Sym/Zaryas shields make sense in that Sym is not really a combat person (therefore reduced health) but she makes up for it with her ability to manipulate hard light/shields, and Zaryas suit looks like it projects something, especially when charge… :man_shrugging:t2: zen is even less “combat”/armoured but as for shields… judging from the way he fires what I’m going to assume is hard light out of the orbs, I assume that they’re also involved in generating a barrier too… :man_shrugging:t2:

Shield generators are heavy and would not allow for the speed she’s capable of while flying. Even as is she can only fly for short bursts. Could be a power issue as well.
