Why is Quickplay so sweaty?

What happened to QP? Like, genuinely, it just feels like all you play against now are people who are playing like there’s something on the line. Can’t have enjoyable games in comp, can’t have enjoyable games in quickplay, can’t have enjoyable games in arcade.

If this is because of MMR, then I see no reason why MMR needs to be in unranked modes.

For clarity: There is nothing wrong with playing to win. Everyone wants to win. Nobody signs up to lose. But where do we draw the line?

Challenges, toxic League players brought into OW via Tyler1, etc.

I wonder, what this even means…
I was called like this so many times, when my team won or I got plenty kills as a support (healing too ofc) - this is how I play, enjoy the game. I am not “trying hard” - I just have fun. Want me to stop and “emote” at you, or what exactly?

its the matchmaking, my friends and i really enjoyed Overwatch 2 until sometime during season 3, the changes they made so queue times were shorter. We noticed games were heavily unbalanced, significantly more than in the past. and if im being honest it has felt like it just keeps getting worse, most games ending in one team demolishing the other because the players in the teams arent all equal skill, to the point now we see one sided games most the time. either stomp or get stomped, no more balanced matches

Nothing. Some players have been complaining about “sweaty” QP for a long time and asking what happened to it even though nothing really changed. They even switched the name to “Unranked” in the mode selection screen so that these people would look at it and understand that it is just like ranked, but just… UNranked. This is what it has been since forever. Players wanting to play proper games for a win because that’s about all there is to it really. You could try out dumb stuff but the game is old already so it’s not like players enjoy throwing anymore. That stuff gets old really quick and for some it’s already annoying right from the get go

Are we blaming people for trying to win a game these days

Sweaty? Most quickplay games I’m lucky if I get all 5 players walking out of spawn at the same time when the game starts. Most the time someone hasn’t picked a hero or they have but disappeared to god know’s where.

Challenges and the fact that playing comp is pointless.

Ah yes, the classic “Don’t blame people for trying to win”. I’ve played Overwatch on and off since 2018, and quickplay has gone from “Learn a new hero, mess around, but still try to win” to “Win at any costs as if there’s a large sum of money on the line”.

The weekly challenges requiring wins is the primary culprit. The matchmaker that randomly pits wildly different skill levels against each other doesn’t help.

So what makes quickplay sweaty? Because I’d say what makes comp sweaty is communication, team synergy, ult economy, and things of that nature. Quickplay 95% of the time is radio silence. All aspects of try Harding go away and now it’s just one person playing what they feel like. Until they get countered then they counter pick.

Here’s my theory.

A great deal of the OW1 community kept on playing OW2. When OW2 happened, that entire community pretty much got squished up into the upper MMR brackets - the lower MMRs are now filled with all the players who joined when it became FTP.

So I, an ex-gold/plat in OW1 who exclusively plays QP and saw a T500 once in a blue moon, now have to contend with going up against Grand Master 1s and T500s literally. Every. Game.

There is a vast chasm of mechanical ability and tactical sense between an OW1 plat and an OW1 GM - but OW2 MMR has decided we’re pretty much on par. It’s insane.

You’re going up against Super Hardcore Uberplayers because… OW2 MMR thinks you are one.

Can you elaborate on this? I dont follow him so i dont know if hes played recently or something . Is that it though? He gave it a play and so his audience did too?

So whats the issue with trying to win a game? Not seeing one here

In Overwatch 1 he was so toxic and flamed players so much he earned a lifetime mute from the game. Blizzard undid all his punishments when they paid him to play OW2 at launch.

Whats your rank in comp?

During the betas, Blizzard worked closely with streamers to promote OW2.

Tyler1 was one of the streamers they selected to promote their game and essentially partnered with him.

This brought a lot of his toxic audience to the game towards the end of OW1 and during the begining of OW2 following the betas.

He also wasn’t the only toxic streamer they promoted, he’s just the biggest one.

I think the reason I try hard in QP is because I’m the worst player in the lobby by a country mile, and I’m desperately trying to keep up (and failing). Comp is better in this regard, so I try and go there to chill out when I can. Maybe I’m not alone in this regard.

There is no issue with trying to win. I try to win, but do you think I go into quickplay acting like I have to win? No. It used to be a more chill experience where everyone would be trying out different heroes. Heroes they’re unfamiliar with.

They’d still play the objective and try to win, but not every match would be a “Stomp or be stomped” kind of game. Now, it’s nothing but stomp or be stomped. There are no fun games where everyone played well, but were by no means playing like it’s a tournament.

You try to paint it as if I’m trying to say that people shouldn’t try to win, when what I’m saying is there’s no reason to treat unranked, a mode that specifically does not have any rewards, like you’re playing in the big leagues.

There definitely is something about it becoming sweatier. It’s weird to be told to stop playing off-meta in competitive, go to quick play to try out heroes like Doomfist or Ball, and then being told to go to AI games because your team wants you to counterswap and play counters/meta to win at any cost. Doesn’t help either when frequently QP will have duos/stacks running things like pharah-mercy trying to cheese or get wins for the challenges and Battlepass levels.
