I play other competitive game my main being CS2 where in every lobby me and my teammates talk about random stuff, but in overwatch no one even wants to say hi back. i just dont understand it, yes there is less to call out in overwatch but i want to talk with my teammates.
“Hi.”
Due to reports of abusive chat from multiple players, your account has been silenced for 9999999999999 days.
I think there’s two reasons. The first and most obvious is that way too many people are toxic and only use voice chat to flame others. Over time people have left voice chat or just don’t egage as much as they used to.
The second is that Overwatch requires a lot of focus. It’s much more difficult to talk when you’re pressing five different buttons and moving your mouse around wildly to track mobile targets than it would be to hold corners or move around in cs.
Overwatch is the nicest completive game i have played especially since overwatch 2 was released and i see them join no one talks the entire game i just yap to myself
You mean voice chat right? Because I still see a lot of people talk in text chat. Voice chat participation is about the same or slightly less compared to OW1, but not by much. But that might just be due to 5v5 (2 less players every game). Besides, voice chat participation rate was always low in our region because it’s OCE.
Dunno about NA or any other region. I hear that barely anyone talks even in text chat in Asian servers.
i am Eu server and even texting is used just for saying team diff but yeah i am talking about vc
Because people are report happy and Blizz caters to it. Best thing for the safety of your account is to disable voice and remove your chat box.
what do you mean by report happy i dont play overwatch that much soooo
CS isn’t team dependant so you are not gonna be yelled at for not healing or diving the sniper. I know what you mean. I’ve made so many good friends when I used to play CS and at some point in OW too. When the enemy you Tbagged adds you to tell you you’re awesome and they wanna team. Aaaah the good days.
It means there is a severe false report problem in the community and as a result, people are afraid to communicate.
There’s just less time to talk. CS is a slow game. You wait on A, wait on A, wait on A… Ts push B, you move to B and the 2 CTs on B are dead already with an entire minute to do nothing but talk.
Isn’t it pretty clear from how Overwatch plays in comparison why there’s little small talk? There’s almost always a fight going on (which is more than a one tap like in CS) requiring concentration, so no, I won’t talk to you during that, sorry. I have to figure out who of my 4 team mates I heal and who of the 5 enemies I hit while dynamically positioning properly to make sure I stay alive to even do any of that.
Does CS have ability to stab apponent in a back with automated reporting system? Because ow2 has it
There’s also a severe privacy problem. Devs themselves confirmed that if disputed, they have the ability to review logs of both text and voice chat - all the while assuring they don’t store it anywhere. That sounds like nonsense to me. I don’t want my voice to be used to train some GPT model and my text chat to be sold to advertisers to know if I’m looking for a hairdresser for my dog. Spoiler alert: I don’t even have a dog, but I swear, if I’m getting an ad for that soon since I posted it here … .!.
Had a match a few days ago where I waved at the enemy Moira, they waved back, I just let her go. Felt good about myself for a moment.
And then my team dogpiled her and I immediately felt bad. Told her sorry in the chat.
That is not why i don’t talk in chat. And i am sure I’ve been reported numerous times.
I was banned 30 days once I’m still not sure why, probably banter in text chat but ban wasn’t warranted, since then i play with text and voice chat disabled, I think that’s it for most people
The game went from a toxic VC cesspool to you get banned for saying hello the wrong way.
Ever since the change I have left both text and voice permanently off. You can argue the former was bad, but the later is worse, and has completely killed communication.
The ping system kinda got rid of the need to talk most of the time. People usually call out someone to focus whether they are weak or out of position. Now you can just ping them.
I don’t talk or message anyone in Overwatch in fear of being reported and silenced/banned by some wonky AI mechanic. It’s absolutely killed the social aspect of Overwatch, I’m afraid of even saying “hi” or “gg”. I’ll only use in-game communication such as the hello emote and pings/voice lines.
If I want to be social I reach out and message people over PlayStation network, but if they’re cross play players I’m out of luck.
I’m genuinely to afraid to engage with text/voice based chat cause of how the report system works. I’ll whisper friends and message in group, but that’s it.
There is talking in comp text and vc I dont think people in comp lately are as fragile as they seem to be in qp. This is not me saying to go test those waters just that I dont see any negative banter and even enemy players will say like dude that was a great play and stuff. I think it just has to do with the fact that we all had to grind our way to our spot so we wont really worry too much about what is said or spouted whereas in qp you can just report anyone for anything just because they looked at you too long. Now in ranked we do typically see a lot more hacker players and they are always reported and yelled at we are just getting tired of players blatantly abusing blizzards horrible anticheat.
