Blizzard apparently thinks showing facts about peoples rank is bad? How do you even know the rank of who’s in your lobby or if you see a clip if it’s even a ranked game? It’s a big deal unless they’ve changed the fact that you used to be able to have a silver gold and plat all in one match…
Well, why do you need to know, all it does is make finger pointing easier. Competitive is about self improvement, and the only thing that having visible ranks makes you better at is finding other people to blame.
At worst, having them not visible in clips or replays would let people lie about their rank, still doesn’t solve any other more pertinent issues like smurfing or hackers.
People are talking about it, but these posts tend to fall pretty quickly. It seems players love the anonymity provided by the game.
I hate it.
I don’t want to belittle or berate anyone, I simply like knowing who has experience, and who doesn’t, and what rank people are (because everybody lies).
cant “self improve” if you dont know who you are playing with or where you are on the ladder.
atleast showing the average skill tier of everyone in the lobby, it ridiculous that people have to play competitive blind, for on average 13-14 games, to even know what rank they are at
You know where you are, you can see your own rank in your profile, and you can see the rank of people with an unprivated profile.
Because?
You simply like knowing who has experience and who doesn’t because?
It’s really suspicious to me that someone who likes having more information would be so vague about handing it out?
You’d imagine you’d be more thorough.
I only know where I am 1-2 games after the ranking update, but dude 14 games in i could be up to Plat from Gold , or down to Silver
Then you have a problem with the new Ranking system, not the fact that the ranks are hidden from players.
Not to downplay your displeasure but even if they showed the ranks of other people it still wouldn’t change that they are moving away from the obsessive ticking up and down on tiny incremental numbers.
thats literally part of the new ranking system wdym
Well, at this point it’s kind of semantics, but I’d argue that there wouldn’t be that big of a change to the whole Win 7/Lose 20 if they showed the rank icons.
Knowing your teammates SR is beneficial at times.
For example, if I’m playing Mercy and get a DPS player who has a higher rank or peak than me than I know that I can rely on him with my DB
But if I get a lower sr DPS player then I would usually play a more carry support such as Ana, Bap.
You have a scoreboard for that now. You can now see if they’re doing better instead if just looking at their rank and hoping it isn’t boosted.
The scoreboard doesn’t tell the whole story.
Someone could be cracked at Ashe but get out damaged by a lower sr DPS who is only shooting at the hog.
Again, it’s not hard to farm stats in the scoreboard but this still doesn’t tell us who the better player is overall
One time i was a plat tank in an all masters lobby. Everyone was like “woah how did you get here” but not once did they insult me or point fingers at me. Everyone on my team was very encouraging and despite us losing no one pointed fingers at me.
Yes if you’re looking PURELY at scoreboard stats, you could be mislead, but you’re also playing the game, being with said DPS, it’s not unreasonable for you to be paying attention to what your DPS are doing.
Besides, you can just go check career profiles if it means that much to you.
I’m glad you had a positive experience, I wish more people would be like the people in your example.
Then we wouldn’t need to hide ranks or have private profiles in the first place.
But here we are, where the developers who are notorious for not listening to the community have had to implement these anti-toxicity measure.
They are, but people across all media platforms are more outraged by the prices of things right now.
Yea one of many UX/UI feature I miss… Being able to show off levels border and rank symbol is cool imo anyway.
The system was never the cause for people being toxic. It’s just them.
Nor does SR. Someone could be on an alt, climbing after improving, playing a hero they don’t play well, etc.
The best way is to just play and see how they do in game
You know what rank you are. You can check your career profile anytime.
Everything thing else you really don’t need privy to.
Unless, you are top 500. You really don’t need to see everyones rank.
