Why is my Perspective So Different?

A lot of people said they didn’t have fun playing the two betas.

I just don’t understand how. I just wonder what people were doing in there? Were they camping the whole time? What is going on here?

I’m posting this gameplay because it’s hard to describe what I saw so I’m trying to let people see my perspective from my own eyes and try to understand cause I’m clearly having a blast here.

Why is my experience so different than other people?

A lot of people liked the beta. They have just no reason to complain and wait until the game is out. From the biggest polls it seems like 50% like OW2 and 50% dont like it (and thats just the people who “complain”).

In the end I guarantee you that the once that dont like OW2 are very vocal about it but dont make up the most amount of people.

The forums largely attract people who come to complain. The average person who is happy with the game does not ever bother to come here.

Take a look around and see what unchecked ego and fear of change looks like, condensed into bite size chunks.

Blizzard said that the forum community is less than 1% of the player base and they don’t really pay it any attention anymore after what it has become.

I honestly don’t know how anyone could blame them for that.

Don’t think they say it wasn’t fun, i think they were more disappointed. That it was more like OW and didn’t feel different enough for the 2+year down time and releasing OW2 instead of just content updating OW1

When the beta forums were open, yeah, there were some threads about certain issues but the general theme was, I can’t play OW1 again because OW2 is that much better.

I liked both betas, second beta moreso.

The beta just felt like a watered down version of OW1. Things that you had to consider before are now gone and it all comes down to the 2 teams colliding head on and whoever click a head first wins the entire fight.

I didn’t have really as much fun because there wasn’t much strategy. I played Mei a bit for DPS and even though most of the time I had the best stats on the leaderboard, she felt really boring and unrewarding to play.

If you catch someone out, especially if they have low mobility her spray just deletes them if they get no heals. However if they get healed it feels terrible because you aren’t doing anything to them.

Side note, as a person who sucks at DVa, I found her incredibly strong in the betas. She can just delete anyone already who is slightly isolated, and now she’s getting a book damage buff I feel like she will be oppressive in 1v1 situations.

It feels like they took a lot of the complexity out of the game with 5v5. It’s clear they did a good job on visuals, sound design, and new content, but it’s missing something with the loss of a tank.

Perhaps it was the lack of synergy, maybe it was the lack of team play, or it might have been that it felt more like a skirmish. I wouldn’t say it feels bad, I still like it. It just feels worse.

I cant speak much about beta, played few games, saw stuff like ana 1v1 bastion, forget now qp is two times longer for some modes with changing sides… yea i was not much hyped for playing it to give up early.

People like different things. Shocking, right?

If you consider camping behind shields spamming a choke point “strategy”.

The zen in that game has some clutch discord orbs and a couple nice trans that helped me keep my killstreak going.

Generally the DPS loved it, the Tanks liked it and the Supports were very split on it.

It is a good game, with some issues.

Funnily enough, despite being a main support, I very much though that Beta 1 was a hell of a lot better than Beta 2… and mostly cause of the support buffs. Oh and Sojourn was kinda weak (which is a good thing frankly) and no Junkerqueen.

Despite being in both betas, I never got access to the beta forum…

If you have only 50% enjoy your game its not gonna last long. By second beta i was so bored and actually fell asleep twice during ques. I actually had to force myself to play.

I get that here is a vocal minority, but I also hear some of the same feedback IRL and I’m just thinking “what game was this dude playing?”.

Survey was about a 50/50 split. That’s probably in the ballpark of reality, but I don’t understand why exactly.

I want haters to watch some of that gameplay I posted. You don’t have to watch all of it, just a couple minutes to get the point.

Ok, what you saw when you played did that look like what I was seeing?

Even the stats about D.va only having a 43% win rate in the beta. Again, how did that happen? She felt completly unfair to me, but hardly anyone else was able to do anything on D.va. It’s crazy to me.

My theory is that OW 1 got people in the habit of defensive play where they all huddle together and they feel that equates to “teamwork”, but I honestly feel like there was more (consistent) teamwork in the beta. The difference though was it was offensive rather than defensive.

Example in the gameplay was that zen who enabled me with those discords to take down their DPS faster, a classic “dive comp” strat.

When a lot of people say “teamwork” what they really mean I think is sustain. OW 2 got rid of a lot of sustain and made team fights a lot more about aggressive “kill them before they kill you” kind of play. That does not mean teamwork got yeeted out the game. It just means now dive is more favorable when in OW 1 brawl/rush was the go to strat.

Was the 50/50 split because OW 2 was not intuitive to people used to OW 1 gameplay?

That’s kind of what I think went on tbh.

Maybe because you play a good role in low ranks.

I play at low diamond.

I guess that’s low compared to some swamp butts on reddit, but statistically it means I’m better than at least 92% of the playerbase at least on console.

Is that low?

Ah ok, so it’s console.
It appeared like a lower rank PC.

Overwatch on Console is another beast. Most complaints come from PC players.

OW on console and PC are very different from each ohter
