Why is my aim so bad?

Like I don’t understand, why? I follow every single aiming tip but still it’s bad. I love widow but its so frustrating when I cant hit anything, AND I HAVE 96 hours on her! Am I just broken?

Maybe.
How is your pc?
Do you have a 144hz monitor & are getting the fps to match?
Do you have a good quality mouse?
Is your internet ok?
How old are you? Im a old bugger at 45 & my reaction speed aint what it used to be. Add in some arthritis starting to show.
Hows your mental state?
Soo many things effect aim.
You gota look at them all.
Its never just 1 thing

Idk if this is one of the reasons but my mouse is pretty big for my hand, and when my hand is on my mouse it doesn’t cover it. This might be one of the reasons I guess?

I share this a lot on these forums. Most people find it very helpful.

Also I don’t have a 144hz monitor but get around 120-140 FPS with render scale set to 75% and my internet is good I think also my mouse is a razor gamine mouse so I think it’s good

A nice monitor isn’t required. As long as you’re rendering as many frames as possible, you’re reducing input lag.

Let’s start with how many hours a week do you play the game. Do you warm up before matches? How long do you warm up and what’s your method for doing so? I don’t know how long you’ve been playing, but 96 hours isn’t a whole lot.

I have about 900 hours on the game, and I play about 28 hours a week. I usually warm up with widow hs only and just shooting bots with heroes that I play (mccree, tracer, widow, etc) in the practice range.

The main thing I’d say here is that bots as warmup is usually counterproductive. Their movement patterns are incredibly different from the way real humans move. I’d suggest playing in custom Widow HS only lobbies or other similar gamemodes. They’re pretty popular, so you’ll almost always see some open.

Also, in terms of actually quantifying your aim, what are your stats for accuracy and HS accuracy?

I’m really not sure just off the top of my head, u can go check out my stats from qp (that’s what I usually play) for widow and stuff if you want.

Well, widow HS lobby is also not very helpful, since widow is a slow moving target when scoped. I like to set 150% or even 200% movement speed lucio bots for training.

Make sure you have a stable frame rate. This is more important than selecting the highest possible frame rate.
You should switch off unimportant effects.
This is a good starting point.

You should also make sure you have a good connection to the server and no packet loss.
If these things are accomplished, only self-reflection and practice will help.

It helps a lot to know how other Heroes move and what skills they use.
Knowledge of the map and positioning are also very important.
It helps a lot if you can predict the opponent’s movements.

Personally, I am more a supporter of the following technique. Give it a try.

I really need a 144hz monitor myself lol. 60hz 55 inch tv is what I use :stuck_out_tongue:

Arm aimer here. 1.1 - 1.5 sense with 1000 DPI

This guy is an absolute god in case of mental states that affect aiming and mouse reviews, he helped me choose a mouse for me which i use for 2 years already and he helped me get better more than any other channel that explains aiming in general.

The first thing to remember is this: Overwatch is an incredible hard game to have good aim in. Movements are instant and this makes precision heroes like widow pretty tough. So don’t get disheartened.

What are your scope settings? I practiced counterproductive for a long time because I had a scope-in setting that did not work for me at all.

Don’t practice against bots and don’t practice too much in Widow hs only lobbies. The best way to practice your aim are actually tryhard Deathmatch lobbies (they have no cheese heroes and the players you are put up against are usually pretty good so you will be challenged). Also this puts the same pressure on you like a real game so your unconsious stress level will be the same.

Also Aim is not really a smooth curve. Especially with heroes like widow you will at some point hit a threshhold and will think “Wow, it finally clicked”. You get better constantly but you will only notice once you get consistent headshots.

Also here is my breakpoint: I never trusted my body to do what is needed to be done. Constantly thinking about my aim threw me off and every miss worsened my aim. Sometimes still does but I aim best if I flick or aim without thinking and this is a really hard thing to achieve ingame.

buy kovaak’s fps aim trainer.

Practice more. If that doesn’t work practice more.

I actually improve my aim by playing a different game. And I know that might sound toxic but hear me out. When I suck at playing people like my main (Sombra), I will play another FPS game, usually Destiny, so I can improve my gameplay while also keeping my Overwatch experience from getting stale.

Tips dont help mechanics (I mean, they can, but they wont make you good just from watching them, they assume you already have good aim). If you were super tiny and I gave you tips for football you would never be good. You have to have 2 things. Natural talent, and the will to practice. If you dont have those 2 things then it will never happen. (Also 96 hours is nothing on a hero. Most players get atleast 200 hours till they get decent)
