If your talking about fanfiction, I would have to disagree because all fanfiction is bad work in my opinion. But hey, whatever people want to do with their time that is up to them.

You mean to say 50 shades of gray was good? Because I personally found it awful and poorly done. I write better erotic literature than that and I don’t even write that often when it comes to story telling. But then again the story seemed to be focused towards a woman’s darkest desire, not so much a man’s even if it had element of rough and bound you know what in it.

Yes, but if you look at the stuff that has been considered “popular” over the years, it seems humans are really easy to please. Anything subliminal, thought provoking, or questionable seems to become popular. A few good, but unrelated examples are Tokyo Ghoul, Legit Any Singer that chooses to take the ‘wild child’ persona, and anything that is considered taboo by most people’s standards.
So if you went up on a stage, dressed provocatively, danced erotically, sang about adult topics, and do things that a normal person would find rude or ignorant. You are basically popular now, congrats.

I surprise no one ships Doomfist with Orisa or Winston as Doomfist & Orisa/Winston are arch-nemesis to each other.
But yes, no one like Doomfist. Just like in MCU, nobody likes ugly Thanos.
I don’t get how this ship can be legit.
Doomfist wants to make the humanity stronger by starting another war between humans and omnics.
Lucio is a celebrity who uses music to promote positive social change, so definitely not a warmonger.
Plus, Doomfist & Lucio has like 19-year age gap.

At one point the devs confirmed the real ship is Mercy and Roadhog, I don’t know if someone still remember that.
Is genji and mercy canon?
I said this in another topic, but her in-game design is the embodiment of support. When you see couples duo in this game, they’re often playing Mercy and Genji(or some other DPS). She fits that role of “supportive girlfriend” perfectly. Lore aside, that’s how people see her. She stands alongside her partner and they’re stronger together.
Note that this isn’t necessarily a bad thing and nothing needs to change. She’s still one of the most loved and recognizable characters in the game.
Eh, considering that Widowmaker has voicelines where she:
- A) Sadly calls out her deceased husband’s name during set-up.
- B) Keeps a photo of their wedding near her desk at Chateau Guillard.
- C) Reacts quite poorly to Ana insinuating that Gérard was an idiot just because he fell in love with her.
- D) Finds time to go to his grave to mourn in peace during Christmas.
…I’d say she’s still very much attached to him and probably “feels” like he’s the only attachment she still has to whatever’s left of her humanity.
People can say it’s because she has that “supportive girlfriend vibe” all they want but let me tell you something… I don’t think that’s all there is to it, I think aesthetics play a big role. the largely Eurocentric beauty standards we have in America definitely have something to do with it. Mercy has blonde, almost white hair and blue eyes, and a button nose. I think a lot of the people who are creating Overwatch fan art/fics were brought up in a culture that admires such Eurocentric features and naturally find themselves gravitating towards her looks and interpret her as more accessible, as an object of beauty. Obviously they designed her, as they do most of the heroes, to be more attractive than the average person. And it’s funny that her attractiveness is largely uniformed in game - in fact, all the heroes’ are, except Ana, Jack, and Reinhardt (who all receive compliments on their physical appearance in-game). But I guarantee you if Mercy were that muscular black man in the original concept art, he would not be shipped with as many people on so wide a scale. Pharmercy would be a paltry rarepair at best (unless Pharah were male like in the concept art), and Gency would probably be some gay fandom phenomenon (but not canon, they wouldn’t go there).

By “legit” I mean has a decent amount of content/people shipping it from what I’ve seen but I can’t say I’ve ever delved into it myself. Lowkey though, I could see the reasons you listed against it actually working well in a memey rom-com way.
Froggyboi is so stupidly wholesome that it’s tough to see anyone - even Doom - resisting his charms. It’d be the perfect way to nullify Talon with zero bloodshed!
Also, I’d say Lucio’s old enough that the age difference wouldn’t matter all that much.

Actually I prefer Alpha Mercy design because blonde hair angel woman is just way too commonly seen.
She looks pretty, but bland.

I think it’s slowly becoming obvious that Genji and Mercy have some form of chemistry. Even if it’s not a relationship.
I mean, letters to each other, they stood to the side talking in the OW2 cinematic at the end, they get each other chocolates for Valentines day.
But I like Mercykill too 
Why would I care in the slightest about what made-up “relationships” people imagine for already made-up characters?
