How about giving him an actual ult, or anything else than a stupid grenade.
I know one possible root cause being that he’s an old character, which means less potential for additional revenue than shiny new character, but that’s just one factor.
Aside from that, I think the main thing is that he needs to ride the line between mobility, durability, range, and CC - as all characters do.
If his mobility were to increase, he’d lose some of the identity or trademark in his kit, and yeah, he’d basically be “just another” hanzo or reaper, depending on how his range is or isn’t changed.
If whatever pocket goodies he has are changed, they’d have to be valuable enough to be worth his lack of mobility and/or damage and/or range and/or utility.
Frankly, changing his HP and damage falloff while making the pocket goodies usable but not insanely effective is the most gentle change they can make, but it’s also the most nothing change they can make.
I’d say “maybe wallclimb,” but we need to do that one Torbjorn at a time, starting with Torbjorn.
he was good before the change to magnetic hack grenade… after that they just messed him up.
its kind of a net nerf for him with the fall off damage, he was in a better state before they decided to make hack grenade. should just revert him back to that state (also would love no hack grenade since yea it messes me up as sombra once in a great while )
why cant they just let him be a sniper character like how all his mains play him. nobody wants freaking shotgun cree, we literally already have multiple close range hitscans via reaper tracer sombra… we dont need to take from the mid-long range to make more close range heroes…
cree was just obviously made in a time during overwatch when they didnt mindlessly make every new hero have widowmakers/baby dvas hitbox while having better damage than him
also stop with the stupid grenade. nobody plays cree to grenade+fan. the only fun about him is getting satisfying headshots and 2taps. plus thats whats most skillful and balanced about him… i hate how they keep ruining his gun for a lame grenade ability
Cass’s identity has always been a hitscan that had the ability to burst targets in close range and provide CC for divers. He has access to hitscan to more easily hit those evasive targets while having a CC to help slow them down for others.
Flashbang was very powerful for what it did to everyone however, but they replaced it into OW2 with something less conceptionally interesting. Just raw damage that blows everyone up regardless of what you do. Still not a solution.
They gave him the new mag nade which weakens his character design to the point where he is likely underperforming at all areas and so they buff his hp (25hp) in an attempt to avg that win rate out compared to other heroes without affecting his other stats.
However, Cass has always been a sort of backline defender DPS with anti-dive capacity.
another sad note is if you look at the leaderboards it seems like soldier 76 surplanted him as premier hitscan. i rather have mccree to be honest…since soldier 76 dominates in all ranks now
McCree has had his HP increased to 225HP once exactly 3 years ago (not changing at all prior to that). They experimented by reducing it, that experiment failed, and they added it back. It hardly seems like yoyoing anything, and in fact it sounds like they’re doing exactly what you said you’d praise them for.
Because his kdr is always low and his win rate is also low.
Hes pretty much a hero that can only be played with a pocket like pharah. He was always carried by flash fan.
Their balance philosophy now is making every hero reach a certain threshold for kdr and winrate so they are trying to force it by just uping his health.
Just make his ult charge faster based on distance and how far they are from the center of his reticle. Problem solved, his ult is good even against aware teams.
I actually came across a guy that only fanned in OW1. It was an obvious troll alt cause his name was something like ‘McFlashFan,’ but he was pretty dedicated; I checked his profile after seeing him for the fifth time and he had like 15h on only him and 100% primary accuracy.
