Don’t ever play Splatoon 3 then cause that game is impossible for new players. I think that game purposely matches experienced players against new players until they quit/give up. It’s the most unfriendly match making system I’ve ever experienced.
Kinda.
The first step they are going to do is give each team identically bad matchmaking.
Overwatch 2 developer blog: Matchmaker and competitive deep dive, part 1
Even if that means each team gets a Gold Tank in a Diamond Game.
I remember reading this and thinking how much of a cope out it was. The solution for bad matchmaking is just to make it worse for everyone. Hilarious.
Well, it’s a good improvement.
It will still pretty bad matchmaking, but it would identically bad matchmaking.
But any improvement beyond that basically boils down to “Get more Support players”.
I would say it’s bad for 2 major reasons…
- Blizzard is just bad at trying to make it good.
- Players abuse it to get into ranks they shouldn’t be.
High demand due to a lack of players on certain roles. To compensate for that, the system widens the range of ranks in a match and it will help to lower queue times but it will affect match quality. OW2 definitely did some changes to widen the range. Hiding our SRs is meant to fight against toxicity but in the grander scheme, it might be to hide how much the matchmaking range widen. Different ranks clumped together is bound to be a disasterious mix.
Other factors could be because the devs lowered how high of a rank you could reach after placements as a new player. You could be an average player and be put in bronze/silver/gold compared to our old average which was platinum/diamond. New players or really old returning players will grind to reach their true rank. This affects higher ranks too on queue times because everyone is grinding up.
ELO hell is now much earlier and a bad experience for newcomers/returning players.
The seasonal SR decay is also bad because it should only happen to players who don’t actively play QP/Comp/Arcade. Now they have to grind up too while potentially getting Ls and dropping a few ranks then demolishing those ranks. (Unintentional smurfing)
Not enough players. If the matchmaker would make balanced matches it could lead to 5min+ queues. And questions about the game’s future would arise, screams of “dead game” and all that.
Blizzard very much prefers complaints of imbalanced matches than “long queues” and “dead game”. The later is terrible for the cash shop business.
because he is smurfing there obviousely with masters mmr in gold
When were the matchmaking changes coming? Next month maybe? They said something about it a few weeks ago.
I hope it doesn’t take them too long because this is getting out of control.
Holy cow some people actually know this
