if we go by skin sales it seems like kiriko is the most popular hero. i get it in a way since young ninja girl with a fox hat. personally i think she is alright but yea widowmaker and sombra are my favorites. still it seems like on these forums widow and sombra are hated a lot and it seems the popular opinion is that they would be better if they never existed (hehe)
i never really see that about kiriko. sure people complain about her suzu but thats about it. a lot of people seem to hate her weird personality as well
the forums is a small minority group tho and probably not even 1 percent of the whole playerbase so…
support heroes do seem to be more popular nowadays. maybe its becuase they are populated by young beautiful woman hehe. even a mature one that is mercy is very younglike. she should be over the hill at 40

The reason that Sombra and Widowmaker are hated isn’t at all related to their characters, but their gameplay. Honestly both are really cool from a hero perspective. They have interesting personalities, great voice acting, and are attractive. There’s a lot to like.
But when you get to playing against them, Widow 1-shots you and makes entire areas of the map a place you just can’t go unless you have a death wish. And Sombra will hack you so that you can’t fight back and then do massive damage to you. And if you get her low, she just leaves. Especially as a tank,. I hate playing into Sombra because your shield, DM, movement, etc all being completely unavailable for a second is enough time to put you in a really really bad spot.
Kiriko is very fun to play. And yes, there’s definitely a lot of people that hate Suzu. But most don’t hate it as much as they do 1-shots or being hacked. Or even anti-nade. That ability also seems to be quite despised.

Year 1 version of her had no weaknesses.
Counters Ana’s nade and can save others from enemy ults, could 2 tap squishies in the face, hyper mobile teleport, wall climb escape, and one of the best team wipe winning ults in the game.
I understand why that’s popular to play cause her kit is like the old OW 1 hero power fantasy.
She has never been my jam, but I get why ninja teleporting to make a play is a fun style for others.
I’m surprised so many people whale on this hero when we have more curvy heroes on the roster.
yea it is probably gameplay related. they are killers (widow/sombra) and it is their job to be very lethal and subtle as to escape to do it all over again. thats probably why dps are hated so much
supports on the other hand are all about being kiwi and having the tools to do somewhat dps to either get away or flex on the dps that cant do their jobs hehe
also it helps if most of them are very young beautiful woman
She’s flexible, capable of high impact, has good mobility, and has pretty infinite skill expression. As far as replayability, she’s by far the best support release since Ana imo.

Probably because she has a cute appearance, so it’s probably easier to design skins for her that looks good on her, kind of like mei. Her gameplay loop being fun probably helps as well in further contributing to her popularity.
A lot of people seems to gravitate towards buying cute stuff. Which probably helps in skin purchasing as well.

Ngl, I really enjoyed how different it was, definitely the most memorable menu we’ve gotten. Her Mythic was cracked too.

Kiriko has never been weak. Thats why. Hard meta hero 24/7.
I don’t mind Sombra as a character. I really liked her recent story with Soldier 76, in fact. She doesn’t have the best design, appearance-wise, but I can see why other people may like it.
All of that is ruined by her kit just existing.
Kiriko is just a failure in both personality and kit. They triple dipped into Japan just for the sake of catering to that crowd of people. She’s not even particularly attractive, imo.
IMHO, I think she is just a pretty normal good looking woman. Her personality goes from bubbly to cool or edgy. So, I think it relates to or resonates with a lot of people.
The advantage of her character design, and personality, is that it’s relatively easy to come up with cosmetics for that persona and body type. Or at least I feel it is if I were I had to come up with something to draw with it.
Her play style is very accessible. I can go full on heal bot mode or I can go dps, or a mix between. It’s hard to fail with the offered flexibility because either direction is quite strong. It can be a comfort zone for people who want to delve into one play style or another without really committing to it. I think Marvel Rivals supports share some similarity in that respect as well.
Yeah I hope someone could explain this. She is nothing but an annoying, noisy little brat.
The bratty types love her!

Its mostly because even the weakest support hero is miles above the weakest DPS hero, even if the strongest supports are still comparatively weaker to the strongest DPS.
LW feels way stronger and viable than Symmetra.
And people pick around what gives them results dopamine, and drop bad heroes that dont.
