Are you talking about Dreamhaven? I haven’t heard news of him joining Morhaime’s team. Would be pretty neat.
Could be retiring on a good note. Remember that some of his closest associates were named in lawsuits and as a blizz VP he would have seen it. Maybe he couldn’t shield his team any longer and resigned in protest. Maybe he was just as bad as his compatriots and bailed before his rep got destroyed. We’ll never know- from the silence he clearly wants privacy.
thats the name anyway…i remember hearing something…no way to be sure though
Stuff like that takes more time if you don’t have a multi-billion dollar company backing you. Conceptualization of ideas and implementation is a big task in itself.
Very much this
He also earned quite the sum in his position, he was no small fry
He’s chilling in his slippers thinking “I told you so”.
He could have been paid a large lump sum to leave
so maybe he no longer needs to work
or he was already rich because of his work in the company
He certainly would be unless he had a lootbox addiction ![]()
He would also have stocks that would mature well with the microsoft sale.
I just want someone experienced to put up a nice hero shooter in competition with overwatch or even if he does some normaloba or something would be nice to see.
I was just sad he left before pve he is good in those aspects.
I dont think it’s fair to assume that he felt this way. He may very well have been very excited to work on and manage an FPS.
???
RTS games are extremely complex balance-wise by comparison to a shooter.
Because people want him to make a new hero shooter as a competitor to OW2.
I mean, I’d play it if it happened.
I am sure Jeff is just happily retired which is just fine. There are plenty of other giants from blizzard who are contributing to the fantasy genre:
Metzen is starting his own D&D spin-off and the RTS legends Tim and Tim from warcraft3 and starcraft2 are working on the next generation of rts with stormgate.
True! Min-maxing is so extreme in rts games that even 1 second difference on unit production can make or break a match. It’s why apm and tightening build orders is so important.
He might be working on a game he can’t talk about yet. That’s always a possibility. He has been tweeting about “space raiders and traders” so who knows?
I could never be a game developer. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s just enjoying his life.
the “sequel” is actually pve and pvp, if the game was shipped as a whole like they originally planned maybe it be worth something. right now it just showing half the game.
You want to know what happened to Jeff? You think he vanished, never to return? I’ll tell you his story.
“Long ago, the three roles lived together in harmony. Then everything changed when Activision attacked. Only Jeff, master of all three roles could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished…”
gamers being creeps? “inconceivable!” :-p
You do know that Jeff left well before the release of OW2 and pretty much right after he left, they completely took OW2 in a different direction in every way from what he had expressed wanting to do.
Not to mention his abrupt way of leaving, plus the other game developers who worked with him, coming out to make little statements that heavily lean towards that Jeff seemed to be constantly having to push back against his superiors when it comes to how OW2 (and OW1 at the end) should be handled.
That the people at the top were all about making a model with money as the end goal and how he was all about making an amazing game for the players (which would still make a lot of money as well).
Was OW1 perfect, no but didn’t have to be. It was a constant evolving and changing game and I think they did pretty well and learned things along the way.
OW2 however, is a pathetically shameless cash grab made by people who have zero love for video games or it’s player base. Aaron Keller is a well paid puppet for a company that has been over ran by business men who probably haven’t ever touched a video game in their life.
I understand they deviated from Jeff’s plan for OW2. But I think Jeff’s plan was a bad idea. The moment they announced it, everybody was instantly confused about how this was a sequel. He’s the reason that Overwatch went on content hiatus for three years while they went into dev hell on PvE. They should have just continued development on Overwatch from the beginning.
I mean with options he is likely worth several million dollars. He almost certainly can retire so why not retire?
