People refuse to switch heroes when being countered, when that whole concept is one of the game’s core concepts?
They are still people and people tend to be stubborn.
Sometimes, hero A is good against the entire enemy team. Then when the enemy has one player that swaps to hero B that’s good against hero A, it’s not always the best to swap, especially when you’re good or great against the rest of the enemy team.
Sometimes, allies of hero A are great against hero B on the enemy team, but hero A’s allies aren’t targeting hero B so hero A dies more often than they should.
It’s not always a counter problem as much as it has potential to be a lack of teamwork problem.
Can you give an example for context
depends. sometimes it’s being stubborn. Sometimes, it’s to preserve their ultimates. Sometimes, just because one enemy is countering you, isn’t enough for you to swap. Sometimes, your team has a great synergy with your pick and even being countered is not enough to require a swap. And sometimes, they’re one tricks.
Because not everyone cares if they win a single given match. Yeah it’s nice to win, but a single match doesn’t matter.
You get less sr from a win and higher sr loss if you flex, right?
Performance based sr that is.
Not inherently. In lower ranks, you are judged based on your performance on a hero based on other players playing that hero at a similar rank. Diamond and above, PBSR is no longer enabled.
At higher ranks, some people specialize in heroes so that theyre good enough to play that hero at that rank. They’re going to perform worse as other heroes, so even if they’re doing poorly as X, they think they’d do even worse as Y.
Other people are just stubborn and refuse to switch. One tricks aren’t limited to Sym and Torb.
There’s also the sunken cost fallacy to this. People play on a hero and get ultimate charge. It’s a valuable resource that could be game-winning, so they’re unlikely to swap off until they get their ultimate off. So they do, nothing happens, but they stay alive long enough to build some more… rinse and repeat.
Sometimes it’s about counter play, not counter pick
It’s no better to choose a hero who you’re not good with just to try countering an enemy. If you coordinate with your team (depending on the situation) you have higher chances
Say Team A has Widow, Soldier, Zen, Orisa, Bastion, Ana.
The Team B has Brigitte, Winston, Genji, Tracer, Roadhog, Mercy.
Genji atleast soft counters most of the enemy heroes. But say if their Widow swapped to a Winston, that would not be too much of an issue if all of Team B, except Genji, engaged the enemy Winston.
Because getting to a high rank while being stubborn validates the stubbornness.
Ego. Why should they switch from their fun and awesome heroe if they get countered by 4/6 players in the enemy team? They others should stop playing noob heroes or get nerfed so that they can enjoy doing nothing except getting that one potg.
