Why is it so hard as a support to rank up?!

Listen.

Its the first time in ages that i’ve been playing ranked. I’ve became more of a casual player who played quickplay with friends. But now - I want to grind! And its fun, dont get me wrong. I have a lot of Fun. But it feels like, its hard getting up.

In OW1 - I was always between 3.6 - 3.8 which was fine. In Overwatch 2, when I started again also like M3. then, I havent played a few seasons, the reset came. And now i’m in Plat / Low Diamond. More Plat LMAO. (which is fine for me.)

But, I have a lot of situations, which I’ve experienced this season.
I’m one of those support, who’s looking which hero is most suitable for the team. Which is working best, I often switch, when another support works better to help my team out. I always try to help the best I can, and yes…I know - sometimes a defeat can be also my fault. I’m aware of that. But there are a 2 things which happened A LOT.

No one’s switching, because they want to proof theirselfes. Teamfight 1 is over, the first is blaming in chat. Mostly its the switching part.

Even in QP i saw more countering than in ranked ngl.
But (!!) that was always the case in the enemy team sometimes. That not switching is the way to another defeat.

How does it feel for you, guys?
I’m fine with plat - because rank is just a word and I just wanna have fun, but its still kind of annoying when you see the same pattern all the time, which is the reason we loose. Just now i’ve finished my match on kings row. I had a doom smurf, who got countered all game. He never switched. ;__;

I mean, even plat is fine for me…I wanna grind which means, I wanna see how much I can climb. But atm…I win a few…i loose more…it feels like a circle atm.

Leave vc, mute chat, lock moira, use orb off cooldown, use damage orb 90% of the time, use ult as soon as you get it (unless the fight is already won), success.

LMAO.
Yea. Maybe thats the way ahahaha…it feels like it.

I’ll give you some more genuine advice.

I’ve hit gm1 and t500 more times than I can count on every role. Sometimes I did it flexing between 10+ heroes, sometimes i did it by onetricking Orisa/Hanzo/Soldier/Lucio/Moira etc.

At the end of the day, in the long run, no one really cares if you hit a high rank except yourself. So if you’re gonna do it, why not do it the way you find the most fun? And like people always point out, people have made it to t500 on every hero. Don’t let meta stop you from choosing your favorite hero and playing them to your hearts content.

The more fun you have, the longer it will take to get burned out and the harder it will be to tilt which will make it easier to play for longer and focus on improving - which will help you rank up in the long run.

Anyways, good luck!

This is great advice. I wouldn’t be playing this game if it wasn’t still fun.

I am in the same position, I mostly play support. I recently got back to playing comp. In season 5, I was in rank plat 3, but I never grinded. After completing the reset this season, I placed platinum 5 and dropped to gold 1. I lost a game where the enemy team had a DPS leaver!
Since Overwatch has become a fast-paced game with a multitude of heroes and abilities, tank and DPS players must make effective decisions. Also, there are other factors, such as maps and modes. I approach comp with an open mind; yes I may encounter rigged matches or teammates with unrealistic skill demands, like three skill-tiers in one match; for instance, silver to plat but Comp is a lengthy grind that requires playing numerous games per season. You can queue with good tank or DPs players; a solo queue is a nightmare. Moreover I try to learn new maps, see what heroes perform better in certain maps, and watch skillful players play.

On my view, the most problematic supports are those who dont take risks. they stay in the back, with no sombra/tracer/winston flankers, and they do not understand: hey it is time to press W, it is free because your tank and dps are making space and need more heals FORWARD.

Of course it is not alway like that, but in my POV, that is a major flaw supports do not adapt to. They think their tank are feeding: no you got it wrong, they are making galaxy space and need more help. Its just a VERY different game and sometimes you have to adapt.

cause theres a million players who dont care about this game you can thank free to play for it

Lol its not hard to rank up with support

This is an insane answer. Thanks to you!
We really need more of you in this community because as I can see the last replies…some ppl exist to make stupid answers which arent helping at all. :')

Anyway! Thanks a lot! I watched a few Videos now and then, i guess i need to switch my mindset a bit, because I literally can’t play as I played back in OW1 or in the first seasons of OW2 because a lot of things changed. I’ll definitely look at it and even If I fall even more…someday i’ll break the curse! x)

THIS!!
I have a lot experience from the time where I played in Mid-High Master and thats why I always push with the Team. I had it a lot of times in the last days, that we had literally 2 picks and my dps or sometimes the second support wont leave the choke because they were scared and then we lost the fight because they havent pushed.

i haven’t ranked up in the past 4-6 months and in fact, i have de-ranked. I am kiri main and literally outperforming my DPS in elims and other supp in healing in most matches… but bcoz my teammates are bad, we end up losing.
This MM is so horrible
