Why is it so easy to derank and so hard to rank up?

The most fun i ever had in a game(cs:go) was when this online community made it so, that you cannot lose rating by playing bad/dieing, but you could still gain rank if you played good and got kills…

anyway, im sure this question has alot of answers…?
but…
** why is it so damn easy to derank 100-400 pts in owerwatch, but so god damn hard to gain rank?**

as always with blizzard games, the game is good - but the game managment is really really REALLY bad, for blizzard “new content” has always been about changeing the playstyle of toons etc…

so… anyway, im used to blizzard living in a complete bubble, and i accept the fact that blizz/OW allow whatever team setup the players wants to play… and i also accept the fact that blizz will go belly up within 5 years or so…

But in the meanwhile…
Why is the “rank system” based so much on the 6vs6 team performance?
it is, as usual, pretty contradictive of blizz
“play whatever class, our gameframe allows and works with 6 dps, if you want”
(sure ive won theese kind of games, its rare, maybe 1-2 games i won with 6 dps in team…)
but still…
a win gets me like +10-30 rank…
a loss can take away up to 50 or more?
anyway…

always if a game is played…
i win… i get +10 rank
i lose (while having 4golds+) i get -50 rank

SO why is it so easy to de-rank ???

ps.
i solo que.
i end up at around 3k rating after i played my 10 placment maps…
then its all dopn hill form there… season after season…
( i loss +1k rating before season is over… every season…)

and also… please dont say
“oh mate u should que wit premades/friends, its alot easier to win/gain rank then”,…

yes yes, i get it i understand… but the point im making is still valid…
its alot easier to lose rank then to gain rank, and this is bad, not a good thing that will help the “competitiveness” of the game, fyi.

becuz to rank up u have to beat the matchmaker that tries hard to make people throw, skill isnt as nearly as important as the throw game. soloque the only real way to climb and the soloque matchmaking will do everything it can to get teammates to throw and make u tilt. The came basically comes down to how each team deal with their own throwing and how they capitalize on enemy throwing to rank up. only in these very, very rare games where everyone on the role they prefer, and everyone performing their function well that u can have a game not determined by throwing

i dont understand you…
but i will say this…
in csgo, i have soloqued, and been the “inofficial team captain” in mic etc…
and managed to become global elite… as solo que.

in ow… lol…
people are insulted by anything and everything…!!!
its like people say “hey… im having a bad/tilty day… so i might aswell play ow to get it all out of my system”

Because it’s really easy to blame your teammates or other external factors and really difficult for some to self-analyze.

the game is designed to match similar level players, NOT to climb/rank up.
want to play in the top 10/5/1% you have to play at that level and by definition only a minority of players will put in the time and effort.

because it’s a team game played by selfish players who don’t understand teamwork

The higher you get the less flakey your teamates are and the less flakey you have to be to get to that rank.

why is it easy to fail an exam and hard to pass with honors???

^ not really an accurate analogy unless your classmates are trying to sabotage your chances of passing

no climbing needs work, dropping doesn’t that’s it

the teammate thing is a fallacy, because your teammates also play on the enemy teams

and of course there can be jerks in the classroom who make noise and prevent you from hearing the lessons too

I don’t disagree with this, but the problem with it is doing this drains all the fun out of gaming. After 3-4 games of basically listening to my own team fight with each other (usually about team composition, even people who only want to play DPS get mad at other people who only want to play DPS) and the odd thrower mixed in here and there, I take a break and go play something else, or just go into QP and turn voice off for a bit (I refuse to comp with voice off, as a support main this feels like soft throwing).

Difficult games with 6 people on both sides busting their hump to win are the ones you want. Completely uncompetitive games (wins or losses) because one team has some form of cancerous individual(s) on it are a waste of time. I don’t care about SR loss or gain, I care about constant toxic children and wasting my time. Your time should be far more valuable to you than your SR rating.

No one would show up to a soccer match if they knew there was a high chance their team was going to be full of forwards with the maturity level of a 6 year old who would then proceed to berate each other and to top it all off you now have to play the full game with them or risk a ban (not that I am for leaving games, just wanted to be reasonably accurate with the analogy)

In my experience both ranking up and falling are equally easy depending on where matchmaker wants you to go.

I know it’s likely that people see patterns in randomness. But does strike me as weird that I’d fall 300 SR in a massive loss streak, then suddenly I’d climb back that 300 SR with an 80% win rate.

Currently I’m on a 9 game win streak and the last 2 games I felt especially favoured to win. The games were easier to win than when I was 250 Sr lower a few weeks ago.

Seems weird to me.

Its simple, climbing is hard work, going down doesnt require you do anything. Its like everything in life , any kind of competition.

Dunno. I’m very near my career high and my last 2 games were super easy to win.

Small sample size to be sure, but I’ve climbed 250 Sr in last few weeks and games are getting easier not harder…

Good job then, you are getting better . But for everyone at his elo, its usualy hard work to climb.

I noticed the same thing when I one tricked Torb from 1700 to 2350 a whole ago. I rocked a 65% win rate and matches seemed to be fairly easy. Then I had a couple of bad matches and I noticed that the matchmaker “soured” on me.
My team mates got noticeably worse than when I was rising up. I started on a big drop down.
I eventually found my skill ceiling and stayed around 2350 for 4 seasons.

Then I crashed down to 1700 with rubbish team mates, throwers and Leavers on my team. Then I took a break, changed heroes and climbed with an 80% win rate on an upward streak.

This season I am playing no more than 2 or 3 comp games per day. Keeps me fresh and also seems to stop matchmaker turning on me.
(again, may be randomness and seeing patterns in chaos, but I just remember 4 wins in a row in my 4 stack, then 4 games with throwers and bad team mates to drag us back down).

In case you would like coaching let me know, i can give you feedback on your recorded games. You have good attitude and right mindset, surely you can reach plat.

Thanks man.

Here’s a Lucio game I asked for feedback from the other day.

Felt incredibly favoured to win, but my individual performance was below par (Only 1 silver medal, no card and only 20 Sr gain).

I’m thinking it’s mechanical issues, but if you have any other insight I’d be grateful.

Thanks,

Gaz

I reacted there, there is not really a point in doing review of game you won. Its better to review game when you had close loss to see what could make difference to win game.

imho it’s the point of competitive gaming, you need to put work and passion into it so when you accomplish something you feel you earned it and that feeling is the greatest in the world, next to love maybe

if you just get everything without doing anything for it it gets boring really fast, you grow entitled if you don’t get it anymore (or even just less), and what’s the point for getting rewarded for just showing up. is our standard this low these days?

and yes, it sucks that people don’t play by the rules and ruin the fun for everyone
