Why is it called GOATS?

Never understood it.

Dive, sniperwatch, triple tank-- all the other metas had obvious names but this is the only one where Im scratching my head.

I’m tired of Googling it for people.

Named after pro team that saw success in tier 2 with this comp before it’s effectiveness was known.

Goats eat tin cans. Bastion is tin cans. Buff bastion.

The team that used the strat and blasted their way through the Contenders is called GOATS.

It was created by a team of the same name (Greatest Of All Time s).

In addition to inventing the comp, they’re also notable in that several founding members were console players, and they were the first team xQc played with after getting kicked out of the OWL

There are a few terms based on team strategies like Goats.

For example Pulling a C9 - Based on Cloud 9
Is when a team abandons a point to get a kill and loses the objective.

Actually that’s not true. C9 has been used so many times that the actual meaning has been lost.
Here’s the actual meaning:

C9 is when the fight is won but they lose the point anyway due to getting off of it or not having anyone on it in the first place because they were overcommiting to the fight and not commiting to the point itself.

Do our definitions of not true mean different things?
Because that is literally what I wrote.

You forgot the key term:

Besides, I’m quoting another person’s words. Those aren’t actually my words.

Best backronym I’ve heard for GOATS is:

Gamers
Operating
All
Tanks and
Supports

GO
All
Tanks
Supports

Doesn’t matter if they win or lose the fight.

The only thing C9 means is they would have captured the point if they stayed instead of running away.

The same reason that triple tank was originally called NIP (Ninjas In Pajamas). Goats was a Contenders team that popularized the 3/3 strat. Now you also have Snoats (Snow Goats because of Mei) and Doats (Dive Goats because of Winston).

To capture a point, you need to win a fight.

It does matter

Do you just have an ideology that you force feed down other’s throats?

this. im so tired of seeing people in twitch chat saying “C9 LUL” when a pro team were already losing the fight and wouldnt been able to hold/cap the point.

It was first used by a contenders team named Goat (their logo is a goat on a wheelchair).

Right now we also have DOATS, or Floats if you might. It is basically Brigitte, Lucio, Moira with 3 dive tanks.
