i dont know if this rework is for a specific game mode of which there is too many to write up here, hell i may even miss a few.
but why is hog being reworked?
with virtually no discourse in the community it seem the devs just felt like it, or pig pen didnt introduce as much effective levers than just putting a resource on his healing introduced.

They probably have the stats showing a bunch of players no longer playing Hog after his rework. They also probably just realized they made a big mistake remaking him in the first place. Direct Experience is the best Teacher

Honestly Pigpen felt like garbage. It’s like Blizz had an idea (probably something left over from PvE), threw it on to Hog and made it look like they reinvented the wheel. Wouldn’t be surprised if that was the same mentality for Sombra, and look how that is turning out…

Yeah and its probably because of pig pen that roadhog players stopped playing him…defo not because ana exists XD

Its why i stopped playing him. It’s a clunky AF mechanic. It’s not fun. It’s not cool. It’s just annoying really.

There were multiple factors involved

I imagine that it’s because the ability was redundant, as he could Hook+Headshot+Melee 250 down to zero anyway.
Pen was extra frustration on top of that.
Having his alt fire gives him more of a nuanced gameplay loop — it’s just more fun. I’m personally looking forward to playing him this season!

I think they wanted Pigpen to be used as like, an area denial tool I’m pretty sure. However, it was much better used to just guarantee the old Hook oneshot, and made him even more reliant on Hook than they probably wanted.
As others have pointed out in other threads, him having his old Leftclick and Rightclick not only offers him some lethality at range (outside of just needing hook), it also offers a kind of mid range that one can play it without being absolutely obliterated by leftclick.

I kind of liked the idea of pigpen, like it adds more weaknesses to his oneshot combo which is nice, but I think it became too strong of just a general area of denial tool

Hog will be nothing without his hook if they revert him. He would have to get his old one-shot combo back, and even then it might not save him in the 5v5 format
That’s why the game should go back to 6v6 being the main game mode

I don’t think he really had a good place in 6v6 either because most of the tank duos had plenty of ways to deal with Hog. Even Orisa pairs better with Sigma, and the shields will be a nuisance for Hog – as he commonly dealt with in 6v6. Having Pig Pen in 6v6 would have probably helped him a ton.
How exactly?
His reworked primary did both jobs fine and pig pen gave him a tool to punish brawl tanks from just running him down for free.
This entire reversal is just a hard nerf. They took away reliability in his kit and replaced it with his old right click that nets a random one shot kill once in every 50 games. None of this makes any sense. His old firing options are a downgrade in every single way.
I see way more people playing pig pen hog now than old hog. Even if he lost existing players in his rework, he gained just as many new users back.
I liked both iterations of hog but it’s just ridiculous to me that we hard buff basically every other tank and then revert hog back to a state where he was already lagging behind.
I think they were also going to put TAB on a global cooldown as well. In general the revert is a colossal nerf and most people will be happy – but Roadhog will be unplayable if he does get any of those changes

I have to agree. I was enjoying the pigpen playstyle personally, played Hog more after that rework than prior to it.
But I did miss the old right-click. But I understand that people weren’t happy about getting hook combo’ed with pigpen.
But people are also not happy about getting one-shot by… well… Almost any other hero.
Since they seemingly haven’t reverted Hog’s crit multiplier back to pre-Hogpen levels, he will be less likely to pull off a hook-pull-crit-melee kill.
Personally, if a Hog can pull off that combo, they should get a kill, but that’s my opinion. lol
I don’t think he will be unplayable, but he will require a different playstyle to make use of him again.
Iirc, he didn’t have Vape on a resource then.
I personally enjoyed old Hog far more as there were actual things to learn, like controlling your engagement ranges, and leading your shots, like any other projectile hero.
In fact, I wish they’d fully revert him and make Antis do like 50% reduction instead of 100%.

Yeah sorry I was wrong, I missed one thing in the patch notes, it’s even worse.
They took away the ability for his secondary to crit before it detonates, so they reverted him and nerfed him even harder for good measure.
I just don’t understand the devs thinking in this.
If they want to make him less annoying, nerf hook max distance but lean more into the speed with his breather for repositioning.

While the new gun was undeniably more consistent, the old gun definitely does offer higher damage at further ranges.
New gun does less damage at the secondary fire range than the secondary fire, but does much more damage in the space between primary’s effective range and just before the secondary explosion.
More consistentcy, less raw power on the new gun. I kinda like the new one, but the old one is definitely fine given how long Hog had it anyways. I do see why the trap might be an issue and the underlying reason for the reversion since yeah, it really doesn’t change how Hog plays at all unlike the secondary fire.
Becasuse whatever players in OWCS say the will do it.
someone (from team falcon) said Hog is not a Tank so they changed it.
Also symmetra was meta so they removed her teleporter perk.
(that’s mt con-theory of it)
