Why is hero balance so slow?

Too strong-orisa ,rein,mei,doomfist,hanzo, moira,baptiste
Too weak-Dva,winston,sombra,bastion,genji,mercy,brig

We all know which heroes are in need of balance changes. This is very frustrating to say the least.

Devs said in a post that they collect data over a month and then decide on balances
They balance for the long term

He was the highest pick rate for tanks before orisa buffs. His shield gave that much value of “pick rein or your throwing”.

It’s The Blizzard Way™.

They live in their own bubble, occasionally looking at OWL matches and then randomly decide to change things to “mix things up”. Usually ends up doing more harm than good, people get mad, devs have no idea why (maybe communicating would help???), they go back to their bubble to have a think for 6 months and then release changes that keep causing more problems.

A rushed patch is worse than no patch.

Because they need to observe and iterate on what the last round accomplished or set out to accomplish.

The one time they decided to be fast we got Moth Mercy, so I’d rather they never try going fast again. No thank you.

Rein, Mei and moira aren’t too strong by the way.

Mercy isn’t too weak either.

as a individual hero, he is prob the worst hero in overwatch. countered by many things. doesn’t do anything well. he was only meta because he needed 5 other heroes to support him to be good. and he was prob the worst out of all 5 heroes (value wise) and he could be replaced by winston. now that sigma is here, they would of prob switched rein with sigma.

winston genji and mercy are good where they are, sombra/bastion prob need reworks. brig needs something added. (prob speed)

yet epic are able to hotfix things within a couple of days notice

I also consider Fortnite to be worse then Overwatch.

He is massive in size and in battlefield although he’s super old now. I guess that’s why.

People here are bad behaved. Will constantly argue with devs; devs dont want to answer to this forum, they would probably snap like the apex dev did.

Because we just shifted to 2/2/2 and got a new hero, so there’s a lot of data to analyze.

You can’t just expect a balance change to change everything. You have to give it time. I would rather have slow balance change than ongoing change that can make the game worst. It would change the game too much if they sped up it up.

Yup, though Overwatch devs are normally more level headed compared to Apex devs. Also Overwatch devs actully care about their game, unlike Apex devs (yes I said it, fight me).

This comic is from over seven years ago.

My guess is that it’s probably a mixture of the culture they have internally from the old guard , the amount of time they have things on the PTR, and Overwatch League.

For example, the PTR had Sigma, Sym, and Zarya nerfs 18 days ago.

Balance is always slow in blizzard games. Broodlords in Starcraft2 have a bug rn that gives them an extra 2 range if you micro them to shoot broodlings then backpedle them right after. Effectively making them impossible to shoot at.

This has been a problem for months lol
